I worry that...

-I have no life, nothing interests me much (maybe this is a side effect of having AS?), and my friends I can only see at school cause none of them live close. The only things I do usually are do homework, listen to music or download some new one's, play games, browse the net, and SOMETIMES on weekends go hiking and I do my paper route twice a week.

-That I'm a child, I'm 16 yet I feel like one sometimes. I feel like a slob, a lazy slob sometimes. Sometimes I feel like Eric Cartman from South Park in that one World of Warcraft episode. Sitting in front of my computer, typing up stuff for school, listening to music or browsing the net while my mom hands me dinner. Not saying that I'm SO Lazy that I can't even get out of my seat and do things, but still I just feel this way, I try to think of myself as not lazy sometimes, I want to be somebody. I wish I could do more, more with my friends, more outside in the world.

-I worry that I am behind everyone else. Everyone has a REAL job while I have a paper route, some people are getting there drivers learners licenses while I don't.

-I worry about school, grades.

-I worry about my self image

-I worry about the future.

-I worry if I'm dumb or not
:( Damn.

Hey, Nova,

Looks like you're in a pretty difficult spot right now. I'm pretty sure everybody feels like that at least some of the time.

First, breathe.
Yeah, it sounds trite, but it's important for everyone to remember to focus on the present moment more often. You can't change what's already passed.

Second, you're only 16, right?
If you're doing the same thing in 10 years, then, yeah, that'd mean you probably need to make some changes.

Third, go out and do something. Change just one thing you do. Worrying about your image? Exercise, walk just a little more each day. (Exercise also helps boosts mood.)

Fourth, maybe you are dumb, maybe you're not, but at least you're smart enough to seek help, even if it's just posting on here. Lighten up on yourself.

Life can be good, emphasis on "can."

Try watching some of these videos:

If you want, you could save the audio in an mp3 format using www2.zamzar.com and then burn them to a cd. I listen to the cd every night that I can.

Every morning afterwards, I feel calm and like my concentration has improved.

Also, don't try so hard at everything. It's okay to be mediocre. It's not a big deal if you fail once and a while.

If you want to get out, take a nightly walk. That also decreases stress.

Hey, a paper route can be a real job. :)

I reccomend volunteering; it can help with the self image and future employment/school a lot. . . plus, it's a good way to meet new people who are interested in the same kind of stuff that you are.

also, personally, I don't think it's ok to be mediocre. . . . but I think maybe that's another discussion.

What I think is important is to give yourself full credit for trying your best, and to keep moving on and trying harder instead of wallowing in failures. It's more fun, anyway, if you can manage it. :)

NovaFlame, I think what you need is a purpose.
If you are doing something that is important...not important to others, but to you, you might not feel like you are behind others and not doing what you are "supposed to do".

By the way, I am 16 and don't have a drivers license. Don't feel bad about it, it's ONLY driving. You can learn when YOU are ready, not when society expects you to learn.

I used to worry about those things, when I was in school. I hope that things get better for you, once you graduate. Things got better for me, after I've graduated. 8)
