I wish my boss would fire me instead of stringing me along like they are. Worked for all of 2.5 hours today picking up some extremely light slack, had the gall to ask about my class schedule when they can't even fill three seven hour days with work let alone one.

She didn't say why, only that she's not sure she likes me.

I'll never understand society... Why is the social law that a boss can do to his employees whatever he wants, while the employee has to suffer every humiliation in silence and cannot humiliate back. One thing is being a professional leader in the subject matter of the work itself, another is having the power to humiliate and never be humiliated. Why do these two things have to go together. Why is a professional leader also an attacker, and the professional team has to be the victim of attack. Why does everyone except me see this as the best form of organizing a group of people working together. Why does HR constantly make sure the employees don't disrespect their boss but constantly protect the bosses who humiliate the employees. Why does an employee who is disrespectful to their boss once get fired on the spot, but a boss can disrespect and abuse for years and years and HR won't think it's even a tiny bit wrong or a bad influence for the company. I'll never understand.

I know how you feel GreenTea, I work in a call center, and trust me... the social system is beyond corrupted.

Human Resources are there only to make sure that employees don't stand up to their bosses' abuse.

Greentea, I agree with everything you've said. I've had similar experiences. I work hard and take every job seriously, and yet I've been so consistently humiliated by different bosses that I developed a lot of work-related anxiety. Something like PTSD. I've been told the same thing - "I can't explain why, but we just don't like you."

I wish I could afford to be self-employed. In order to start a business, you have to have a lot of money. Most people take out loans to start a business, but in order to get the loan, you have to have a certain amount of money and a long credit history (not just good credit). But maybe it's different where you are. Have you looked into becoming self-employed?

Consider yourself warned right now that you will be losing your job and do what you can to protect your yourself.

Now it is obvious that HR will not help you out. The best thing you can do is start to look for another job. If you have any unused vacation time, use it now for this purpose (because you can be sure that they will find a way to not reimburse you for it). If you do find a job, give your 2 weeks notice and leave. If your boss is surprised, tell her that she threatened to fire you and you acted.

You do not owe your employer any loyalty at this point. In fact, since they are looking to get rid of you quick, you may not even want to give 2 weeks warning.

A boss who wants to fire you will do so - without warning.

A boss who makes threats is trying to gain some sort of political edge. She's trying to get you to do something.

We call it motivation.

How do you get more work out of people? Give them a raise? Ha Ha Ha!

She said, and the response is, what would make you like me?

In management we do not care about employees, Yes, first they want to be treated like humans, then want time off, vacations, raises, promotions, this has to be stopped at the source. They are not human.

You must have missed day one of management training. Employees are nothing and hardly worth the time to torture. No matter how hard you underpay them and keep them living in fear, it is expected, and will not lead to promotion.

Promotion comes from making employees make your superior look bad. Upper management is always looking for someone who can use resources in creative ways.

Now all you have to do is destroy the person above her, so she can deny any involvment, and get some photos of the person who will select their replacement with their mistress.

Show you are a team player and you can get her slot when she moves up.

Now do you understand the term, "Business Ethics"? It means the same as Generally Accepted Accounting Practices, GAAP, which is always pronounced with a chuckle.

Yes, she was trying to get me to accept an additional (well below my professional level) job - which has to be done in the evenings-nights after work hours. I was dragging my feet about it. That's when she said she's still thinking whether she wants me in the company, she's not sure she likes me.

The key to starting any business is to have contacts. Contacts who will be your customers, contacts who will be your suppliers and contacts who will help fund your venture.

We had a spontaneous meeting today, and we are all thinking of going together to complain to her boss about her. The problem is we know she has her boss and the boss above him too, wrapped around her little witch finger. At least at this stage, they'd rather we all quit together than demote her. There's also an anonymous survey run by HR where we spoke our minds about her, but so far nothing has been done about it. I'm praying she gets fired before I do...
