Lights. Lots of them, blinking. Even during the day, they catch drivers attention and get them to notice you, so you're less likely to get hit.
And I know what you mean. In two months working at Target, I got hit by cars three times. One of the women who hit me even had the balls to yell at ME, like somehow she was completely innocent at that. I left a nice dent with my steel toes though, and she had a brand new cadillac, so I know she was freaking livid when I rode off. I never got hurt past bruises though...
Also, try to cross at streetlights, cause people are usually to scared to run reds. And ride the far side of the cross walk cause I know a lot of drivers pull halfway into the thing.
