My Fun Times at York Hospital (not)
Hello everyone,
As I said in my father rant-thread, I'm currently in the hospital, in a room I have to reluctantly share with a roommate, because I had a bad Crohn's flare up, which I'd had for like 3 days.
It seems like one of 3 dimes that I swallowed back in September as a result of a bad break-up, is still inside me, and when I had my latest flare up, *really* played Hell on my guts. I thought I'd be released as early as last night, but ARGH! I Have to stay one more day, just for the nurses to be sure, even though I feel fine.
But the thing that's royally p*ssing me off the most is...well, lemme explain.
When I was first admitted into my room, I was lucky enough to be alone, but the next evening, I got a roommate, even though I said the previous night I wanted to be solo. And this rommie, was a PERFECT example of why I prefer to be by myself. He's about twice my age (late 60's maybe), is having work done on his guts, and on his first evening here, had an accident in the bathroom (no surprise). THAT'S the reason why I prefer to be alone! I hate having to share a bathroom with anybody, let alone someone with the bowel control of a 2 year old!
My guts...are KILLING me, because I refuse to use that toilet, but if I get desperate, I can always lift up the seat and sit on the bare base. You think I like listening to other people's stool movements? Well I DON'T! All I could do to cover up the sounds of the noise was pray "please God, let me keep control of my bowels when I get older! PLEASE!!"
And as a *final* insult to injury, he might actually be released....BEFORE ME!! That ranks second on my list of why I don't like having a roomie....because being the first person seen on arrival, and the last person seen when they go home...you might as well label me as a terminal case. My only hope to avoid this humiliation is that I MIGHT be discharged in the morning, and him in afternoon. Well, here's hoping...
See you in a day or two,
Usagi1992
Update - Yes! My wish will come true! After my x-ray in the morning, I'll be given oral meds and be discharged before my roomie, who'll be leaving at 1pm. Damn, that feels good! ![]()

Theres only one word to describe that = Horrible!
I could NOT bare being in there in those circumstances.
Wasn't there any other bathrooms that you could use? I think that the hospital staff making you share one with someone who has accidents IN the bathroom and not actually IN the toilet is a really disgusting thing to do.
Not to mention, unhygenic.
It's great that you are getting discharged soon. Welcome back your freedom! (and clean toilets!)

I would have spoke up about the Aspergers and make a fit about it (I did when they wanted to switch roommates at the hospital. I had another Aspie roommate who was really nice and QUIET, and they were trying to make me move with this swearing girl who screamed randomly and played loud music all the time, and I can't handle change like that, so I freaked, so they let me stay with her). Since you're leaving in the morning though, there isn't really a point. *hugs*
I wish you feel better!
To both Brittany2907 and ebec11,
Yes, it is horrible. And yes, I did speak up about the idea of using another toilet somewhere else, like even the public toilets on the second floor. But when I suggested that to one of the nurses, they just said "wouldn't that be even more unhygenic if you have Asperger's?". I mean, true, they did clean up that bathroom almost immediately, but apparently, they didn't take my personal feelings into consideration! And I DARED not say that it was that old man's fault, as that would've labeled me a jerk in their eyes!
And don't feel too much pity for him...he's a cantankerous old man. When I coughed yesterday from the phlegm caused by an ice cream, he thought I was making fun of *his* cough (as he was also having his esophagus worked on) and...cursed me out!
He referred to the volunteer pets brought in to cheer up certain patients as 'little bastards'! I even accidentaly spied him on his little porta-potty when trying to adjust our seperation curtain. I QUICKLY looked away and said 'sorry'; he didn't say anything at first, but when his wife came to visit him, he said something about some 'orderly who gave me a "f*** you" look while I was on the pot', like I didn't even apologize at all, but rather I was saying that he was beneath me for being in such a vunerable position!
Trust me, listening to a hateful old man taking a loud crap less then 12 feet away from me 4 times is enough for me. F*** him.
Thank GOD I'm leaving before he is!!
Yes, I was released yesterday at noon, but I have to take a buttload of meds for a week, to keep my flare-up from coming back. I will need to go back for an x-ray next week though, and if that dime in my small intestine hasn't moved, it'll mean surgery.
But at least my doctor told me she'd give me a bonus: She'll remove my appendix too, no charge! I guess because if that dime hadn't got stuck where it is, it would've done so in my appendix. But in a way, I think this reduces me to the level of a 'common scum human being', in that I never thought I'd have to have my appendix removed for anything; Now I'm gonna have a surgery scar on my abdomen like everyone else. I mean, I'm already butt-ugly to begin with, I don't need anything extra in that department...
Oh well, I guess that's what happens when you develop Crohn's...
What's Crohns?
I'm sure you're not butt ugly!
*hugs back*
Crohn's is a condition where the intestine walls manufacture more mucus then normal, sometimes causing light to heavy painful abdominal cramps. People who drink too much soda in life beforehand get Crohn's more often. It cannot be cured completely, but it can be kept in check by taking medicine everyday.
And as for you're saying I'm not butt ugly, I suppose you're right...we're ALL our own worst critics out there. But my body isn't perfect...that's all you need to know...that's all society needs to know, that I don't belong out there
See you later ^_^

Update time!
2 days ago, I went back to my surgeon to check up on the dime situation...and she said it's actually MOVED! 3 inches, to be precise, down my small intestine. That surprised me, because I thought that dime was stuck in a fold! So maybe, just maybe...surgery might not be an option after all. All I have to do is just keep taking my medicine until the dime makes it to my large intestine, and then it'll be smooth sailing! ![]()

Oh believe me, I hate my body. I constantly look at my stomach and thighs and obsess about them...so I get it. I'm just making sure you know that it isn't logical, even we both believe it.
Society sucks, doesn't it?
