I feel so depressed right now. It's so overwhelming, I just want to self harm until it all goes away...
but I've not self harmed in 8 days, and I have been proud of myself
I'll be even more of a screw up if I give in to my temptations

I'm really tired, and want to sleep, but I'll probably self harm if I'm close to my dresser, where my screw is...

Well then, stay away from that screw. You need a safe environment. Sleep in the living room if you need to.

In the morning, tell your parents about it and get rid of that screw, or do it yourself.

cyber hugs ebec11.

Rather than saying you probably you will self harm if......

Convince your mind by saying over and over a positive affirmation.

Some thing like.... I feel free from this urge to hurt myself.

Repeat this idea -convince your mind.

Feeling sad is incredibly hard.

Well, ebec11 - you helped me once. Let me try to help you. From that post about you saying that I seem a bit bitter about being single, I can tell that you are a nice person that points out the truth. I don't know if you like music, but if you are listening to dark depressing music (Marylin Manson, NIN, or Mahler for example), stay away from that; it can deeply affect you. I myself suffer from major depression, and usually I have to listen to more positive music (My faves are Mozart, Yes, or even new age) to lessen the effect on some days. Also, I agree with another on this post...you need to change your surroundings just temporarily. This is the hardest part...try to find something that you love to do. I know, in this state of depression it is almost impossible to do that; but there has to be at least one thing. I only hope that this helps you, and I sincerely hope that you feel better soon. Thanks for reading.

Thanks everybody for the support. I decided to go to bed (and somehow managed not to self harm due to the fact I was so tired that I didn't have the energy to do so) and I feel much better this morning. I'm really grateful for all the positive comments everybody's been posting, and although I'm probably not going to get rid of the screw (there's no point - all my sharp tools are really close to me and probably the screw is the least harmful out of them all), I'm going to try my best not to use it.

If you can manage it, get a ferret. It's impossible to avoid being delighted when you've got a ferret around.

I have a bunny who cheers me up, but severe depression can't be cured by an animal.
