I have never had a good experience with therapy before, only horrible ones. The kind that leave you with tears and no comfort and no tools or solutions. The kind that still haunt you years later.

After careful research and asking for recommendations I think I found a good fit and meet with her on Thursday. I might get an antidepressant and a lightbox out of it. Don't know if I'll bring up the ASD suspicion right away. If she's perceptive, she'll bring it up eventually, I think.

Although my pain issues are resolving and I was grieving the loss of activities that I love, love, love- things that provide meaning and purpose in my life- my PT today told me that she really feels that I will not have to give up two things that I thought might be lost to me forever (two favorite heavy musical instruments). I hope bicycling might be possible soon too. It is weird how the body affects the mind and the mind affects the body. So my PT is helping both immensely.

I really hope this new person can offer me some insight and some coping skills.

I just wanted to share these couple baby steps with my WP family.

Why wouldn't you mention Asperger's to a therapist?
If you've known for two years, how much doubt can you have?
What's the point of going?

I'm glad that you PT is helping and that you've found a therapist you feel positive about.

I think that you should speak to your therapist about ASD at the outset. I was speaking yesterday to someone at the Autism Resource Centre here about a number of family issues related to autism, and she said that you should never assume that psychiatrists, or other health professionals are knowledgable about autism. She said that if they are unaware of autism then they might well approach issues and problems from entirely the wrong angle.

I always think it is best to give any health professional as much background information about yourself as possible, so that they are fully informed and can treat you better as the individual that you are.

Good luck with the therapy, and I hope it all goes well for you. :)

Oh, good question: the main point is really the depression and chronic pain issues taking precedence at this point. I don't need an official ASD diagnosis for any reason.
It would be nice to "know for sure," but I have more pressing issues at the moment. Probably related, but still separate.

Thanks everyone.

Oh...sorry...it was meh.

Not horrible, not great. Just meh. (Which is not a bad sign...I have seen other so-called therapists that made me feel way way worse.)

Of note, I've been having some PT lately and my PT is a way better therapist than the therapist. I wish I could see her for mental therapy too. But I didn't really like her at first either, so I'm giving the mental therapist another try, just in case.

This is my 1001st post. I love the number 1001.

Thanks for asking. That was very nice of you!

I play a USA-made Peavey Foundation. Four strings- I have disproportionally short arms, but don't like a short-scale bass. I would love a lower string and have thought about stringing it BEAD and trying that.

Maybe I need a Music Therapist!
