Dec 15 2006, the worst day of my life and I feel like it keeps coming back to me. I feel the worse thing than contuning to cry about it is to forget about it. So im always crying at night and talking about it like "I had one of those toys before the fire." If just a fire wasent bad enough, I had to deal with the loss of the clostest person in the world to me in this fire. Not a person, but my cat Licorice. She is what I cry about at night. I had to bury her.

We are back in the rebuilt house and we have a new cat, but how long will I keep crying? I need help coping with life without crying myself to sleep.

Sweetie,

I'm so sorry that you lost your best friend. The fire was bad enough, but really, the worst thing was losing your friend. I know what it feels like when I lost my house in a flood, and a bit later, my best friend, my cat, died.

Have you written a letter to your kitty, telling her how you feel, how much you loved her, what was special about her, and all those good things? Tell her how much you miss her, and that you know she will always be in your heart.

Take the letter (and make a copy for yourself to read when you need to), and bury it in a little box above where she is buried. You need to say "good-bye" and this will help. It will always hurt some. That's normal. After all, you loved her and she loved you.

If you can, and haven't already, ask your mom or dad to talk about it. Go ahead and cry. I still cry, sometimes, when I think about my little boy. It's OK.

Take care of yourself.

I agree that you should definently talk to someone when you start to feel badly about your loss. I cannot imagine loosing my best friend, I know its got to be hard. You love her, and that will never change, but I'm positive that you will find new friends that are just as dear to you.

In the mean time, its perfectly normal to cry. After a while, the crying will most likely lessen.

Best wishes!

I'm sorry. I have lost many pets and it's painful. I have been thinking of all my pets lately and how much I miss them.

My best friend is dog. She just moved away last week. I haven't stoped crying. And I stay up way late crying myself to sleep.

Try getting a new best friend. Plenty of kitties need a friend!! ! There are always animals who need love and I am sure you have lots of love to give.

I am getting a dog soon. But I don't think she will replace Josie in my heart. I just want her and I won't see that much for 3 years.
I am trying to say your cat will always have a place in your heart and it's ok to still be sad about it.

Thank-you, everybody for all of your kind words. I do have a new cat who is very playful, and she and my family will help me get through this.
