There probably isn't much to be said about this one. It was my mistake (if it was a mistake.)

Sigh...

I sold my Peruvian mare this weekend. I have had her since she was 15 months old. She was my first horse that I owned.

This breed is bred to be tractable (which she is), and showy, (which she is). Unfortunately, they haven't exactly been bred to be physically strong, or 'sound'. They are also prone to a disease that is pretty horrendous; a disease that her grand-sires line is notorious for, (I come to find out later.)

I didn't know this about the breed when I bought her. Most of the breeders were hiding these things, and it only became common knowledge about four years ago.

She has bad hooves. I won't go into specifics, but she would go lame. She passed these hoof problems on to her foal; (even though I out-crossed to another gaited breed hoping for hybrid vigor.) With the chance of that disease and those feet, I decided I was no longer comfortable breeding the mare. Plus with her foot problems she was only good for light riding.

I sold her to a friend of my sisters as a kids horse. She came to look at her Thurs. evening (kind of unannounced :x ) and seemed very taken with the mare. I was very up front with her about her feet, and problems, and potential for disease. I told her I was no longer comfortable breeding the mare. She bought the mare that night and told me that a truck would come the next week to pick her up.

She called me Fri. and told me a friend would be out the next day to pick her up. (Change of plans. Short notice. :x :x ) This friend would be riding the mare to get her wind back for a week. She was friendly and gabby though. We talked horses for 40 minutes.

The fellow came and got her. (I cried, but before he got there. ) He was good with her. Patient. Not pushy. No blood-and-guts-you-will-do-what-I-say-hoss'-cowboy-up crap. I liked him alot. He liked my curly horse alot ( :) :) total bonus points with me.) He loaded her up and we shot-the-sh** for an hour or more. I felt better and better about where my mare was going.

She called later to ask if C______ had come for the mare. I told her that he had and everything had gone fine. I told her I liked him alot. She then proceeded to tell me that C______ was "...just a dork." and other insults. She was terse, and got off of the phone quickly. It was strange. Maybe she was having a bad day, but now I am worried.

I am sad that she is gone. She is a great little mare. I thought she was going to the right place, but now I am not so sure. I always wonder about people that are so free with insults.

I sold the horse. I can't go poking my nose in it. It is done. But now I am pretty emotionally scattered, cause I am so worried on top of it.

Well. Thanks for reading a vent anyway.

I'm sure the horse will be fine.

When people are free with insults, its almost always in a joking manner. I wouldn't worry.

Up date on this.

I got a call yesterday from the lady who bought my mare ("Sissy"), and she is very happy with her. She says Sissy is adjusting well, and making friends. Her daughter (8yrs.) will be riding her in a parade on Memorial Day.

She has promised to call with more updates after her vet and farrier have taken a look at her.

I feel better about it now. :)

i'm glad you feel better. i understand how people saying certain things or in a certain way can completely change how you feel about something that might, to others, seem unrelated.

Thank you. :) The bay (dark horse on the right) is a half sister (same sire), to the mare in question here. The sorrel (lighter horse) is the bays daughter. (I thought they were both sisters but had to double check my info. I forgotted. )

I painted them for a lady in Oklahoma (the owner of those) who had lost her husband the year before. It is only part of the whole painting. I fit what I could, (and still have it look okay) in the avatar.
