Doesn't matter what the occasion is or the context it is in. I always hate that question. I have little answer to give other than 'video games and internet'. But that gives the impression that I'm a hardcore computer/game geek/addict. And that doesn't describe me at all. I just never ventured far outside of my current interests to find anything else that I like doing. And don't see myself finding pleasure in a lot of things. Most of my leisure time is actually spent sitting or walking around and getting lost in thoughts.

Yar! Mostly because "reading" sounds too generic but "reading books by science fiction authors who went crazy and/or died young and in the end seemed to really believe their wacko theories" doesn't fit in the space.

Not really because I'm okay with people asking me about my interests.

Yeah, its not the interests themselves, but that I'm certain they are going to assume that's all I am. If they asked, realizing that its just a cursory clue about me, a step to start to get to know me better, wouldn't bother me at all. Never seems to work out that way though, so I cringe having to answer questions like that.

I just answer "your mother."

Shuts them up.

No. But I DO hate the question "what kind of music do you listen to?" It always seems like a lame, scripted attempt to appeal to the universal and establish rapport.

Thank you Cat Lady!

Hey I thought I was the only one with that kind of view...
And someone in my age group, and from up in PA too, my
grand folks were from Ephrata deep in the Amish country.
You familiar with the area?

Crack: I don't mind. It's supposed to be a way to find common enough interests that a conversation can ensue. Interests, I haz them.

I hate most personal questions at least, the random ones. I am ok with interests, as that is vague and a useful bragging point(I have very intellectual sounding interests), but I don't trust people with so many things about who I am that, unless I am willing to be open in the first place(which I am to some people on some occasions) then the questions annoy me.

You're welcome.

Ephrata is east of me, beautiful area...or it was when I was out there years ago. I'm south of Pittsburgh, nothing much out here except abandoned coal mines and old company houses...oh..and of course Wal Mart. 8O

I don't really mind but my interests are so wide that it's rather a difficult question to answer. Right now philosophy is my main interest but next month it may be politics or physics or psychology.

I always get something more like:

Do..... you....... like....... can........ dy.......?

Etc. In a long string of simple yes/no questions.

Yeah. I hate 'what are your hobbies?' even more because i never seem to do anything.

I do have interests. I can't think of them on the spot. And somehow people seem to get the wrong idea. And my interests seem to be uncommon. Most people my age like flims. I hate most films. I like to learn about medical stuff, and I like to go to art galleries.

I do not hate it... I normally say: "A lot of things!" and then list them, well, I guess it makes people less interested in me since I am very much a geek and am interested in a lot of unpopular things.
