Because my psychiatrist was either unwilling or too incompetent to provide 90 day mail-in scripts, my step-dad has been keeping me off of my medications until the proper scripts are filled. I have an appointment with a new psychiatrist on August 21st. I do have two refills remaining on each of the medications, but my step-dad will not fill them.

He gives two reasons for this:

1. Money. Which is false; he makes about 100 grand a year.

2. He said he wants the doctor to see me off my medications...

Meanwhile, he has gone back to being his nasty self and threatening to throw me out or call the police for trespassing every time theres even the most minor of disagreements. Life sucks at the moment.

Alot of meds you can't abruptly just "stop" taking. Is he aware of this??

I think I would try to get in touch with your psychiatrist before the 21st, and make him more aware of the situation you are facing at home, and also ask him about any possible withdrawal effects you could be facing if he is not willing to intervene for you in this situation.

Life really doesn't suck...although some of the people we have to deal with can sure make it seem that way at times. :( You shouldn't be dealing with this. I hope things look up for you soon.

My dad was the same way but he was an alcoholic. Little did he know when I went off my meds cold turkey, I began having severe seizures.

Is your dad the type that doesn't believe in meds?

This doesn't sound like a good situation for you. I don't know your step-dad that well but that's financial abuse as well as anything. The reason why I say that is it could get worse but again I don't know your step dad or your financial situation.

I agree with the statement above. Get in contact with your psychiatrist ASAP before the 21st. Also it would be great if you had a case manager to help you out with your circumstance maybe even get you on Medicaid or something and help you with your current living situation. This of course will take one step at a time.

Try to hang in there and not let this problem make it more than what it seems. But I've gone to the point of being homeless so your situation is understandable. I no longer am living like that but I had to learn the hard way to ask for help and work at finding resources that were available out there. My own home life was very chaotic to a point where it was unliveable for me. So you might want to think about that as well.

I'm sorry to hear things ain't going so well for you Parakeet. I don't know much about meds so I can't comment. Maybe it's time to start living independantly, is there any chance your family will assist you in finding another home?

Hi, iamnotaparakeet, we have missed you!

You know, I am thinking that since you are over 21, your stepfather doesn't have the legal right to withhold medication from you - perhaps you could talk to someone about the legal ramifications. Sorry things are so bad at the moment, though, and hope it gets better soon.

Anyway, it's nice to see you back! :D

yeah he should not be withholding medicine from you like that, with some meds it is harmful to stop taking them suddenly.

I dont know what yuor situation is, but if you have the money for copays and the transportation, you can easily get them yourself. The refills will be on record at the pharmacy. All you have to do is call them or go there and ask for the refill. You do need money to pay for them, but if you have insurance they shouldnt be too much, hopefully. You can also transfer prescriptions from one pharmacy to another if the one they are currently at is too hard to get to, I used to do that all the time... from city to city to state to state...I moved a lot.

If you cant talk to your dad is there anyone else who can give you the money for them if you dont have it? If you cant see your psych or she cant help you might be able to go to an Urgent Care type of thing and have them help you

I just sold my Wal-Mart stock, but when I get the check the 21st will already have passed. I have no job right now, not since I was fired from Wal-Mart in April 2007, so I have about $18 total in my bank...
