is it possible to be addicted to exercise? it seems as though every time i stop working out i get depressed eventually. i've been on a three week break from rowing and this week i've felt like crap, despite my ADHD medication. Usually the meds get me somewhat motivated, lift my mood a bit, and at the very least get me interested in SOMETHING. today i'm tired, i slept over 8hrs last night (more than usual), unmotivated, irritable, depressed, etc.

i think i might just be depressed and it's the exercise that's keeping me from feeling it, and when i take a break from it i just get depressed again. i really hate depression, it seems as though every few months i'm depressed.

For the record, yes it is possible to be addicted to exercise. I sort of know how you feel though because I've been thorough depression myself. You seem to be using exercise to distract yourself from your depression. No offence, but if you haven't sought help for your depression you should really do so because if it is the only exercise that's keeping you from being depressed then it's only a matter of time before you're mental state gets worse (again, no offence intended).

yeah don't worry, it's pretty hard to offend me. i know i should see someone about it. i saw someone last time i was really depressed (about 5 or 6 months ago), it was the psych who diagnosed me with ADHD and he really didn't help. I saw a new psychologist after that, she specializes in ASD's and was the one who diagnosed me with AS. She seems to listen more and is easier to talk to so i could see her about it, she just tends to have a busy schedule so it's hard to get in some time. I'm just going to see how i'm feeling at the end of this week, i've got a training camp for rowing, and if i'm doing ok i'll wait until the end of the rowing season (end of oct) to book something with my psychologist, or i'll see someone before then through my school's disability centre.

Yes you can get addicted to the high from adreniline. People do get addicted to that.
I find I get depressed if I get bored, maybe you need to find some mental stimulation outside of your rowing, some interests may help.
