My dad and a move to Idaho, a lot of complex things
About 1 month ago, my sister decided to go to a Bible camp/school almost 40 miles away from home. I am not sure if I should go into details or the views of my dad and family on the issue of her motivations to go to this bible camp. Which would obviously lengthen what I expect to be an already long post. This camp has charged her tuition of 5000$ of which she still has to pay 1500$. She would have had it paid off but she couldn't use all the scholarships.
She clearly could have gone to college, earned damn near 30 credits, and been without student loan debt. but apparently her "relationship with God" is more important. She receives nothing more than this emotional feeling from this bible camp/school. It is worth admitting that through her actions, she has pushed me and my father away from Christianity. It is a darn shame she has done this, as it is a core tenet of the branch of christianity of which I am nominally a member that anyone who doesn't
believe in Christ as "Lord and Saviour" is apparently going to hell.
Anyways, on to the issues.
Last night, my sister called home from this Bible camp, complaining that she has strep throat. My dad had to make the drive all the way into this bible camp late at night to pick her up (an 80 mile roundtrip - a bad thing in the age of 4$ gasoline) (also he shouldnt be driving at night as it is risky and he is exhausted from his day)
He is 68 years old, a single parent of 3 children, including me (at the age of 20), and still managing to work as a janitor full time to support us. Compunding that, he smokes, does not eat healthy, is very sedentary aside from work, and is constantly dealing with bitching yelling, and arguing from my sisters and the unpredictability of a wife who divorced him and moved to Egypt for rapport with an internet romance 2 years ago (she basically legally kidnapped my sisters to Egypt).
These girls could basically be termed "intelligence agents" and/or "special forces" for my mother. The little one (17) has repeatedly come home drunk and is openly disrespectful towards my dad, using the worst language against him and saying (not directly) that she wishes he would die and burn in hell for eternity.
The other one (18) has a boyfriend whom my dad does not approve of as a result of conflict with his mother and his sloppy appearance and lackadasical chances in life. This kid's mother is a real b***h and takes orders from my mother and was loyal to her. His mother even wanted to sue my dad for slander because he told my sisters (in our house) that she was a fat pig, which they promptly reported to her. My mom stayed with her a while and she said bad things about my dad to his mother. This happened as a result of my mom staying with her temporarily while my mother waits for her husband to get a US visa. My bigger sister thinks she can do as she pleases because she is an adult, she is a holier than thou christian. Neither sister drives drives.
I honestly worry for my dad's health, and I fear he will die or be incapacitated soon.
All of my family lives down in Idaho, roughly 14 hours or 495 miles from my my current domicile in rural NW Montana. I worry that if he dies I will be all alone up here. There is minimal mass transit and I don't have a drivers license and am not able to acquire one (as I am considered to be an unsafe driver). I have never held gainful employment. There is no way I could find an apartment up here. It is invisible, but I feel functionally disabled. I feel ashamed of myself for never having worked and being dependent on my dad and Vocational Rehab. There is no reason for me to live here, this state will become a millstone on me at some point in the future.
I utterly hate Montana.
Last year my dad discussed retiring in the summer of 2009 and moving to Idaho. I plan to attend Boise state that fall. Another motivation is that, I look forward to attending anime conventions and in my own words, involving myself in the echelons of geekdom. I dont currently have any opportunities to do any of that stuff as the area I live in is utterly decrepit for opportunities to engage in these activities, and the few that exist require me to drive.
Well, to make sense of the above paragraph. One of the camp counselors called this evening during dinner and DEMANDED that she be back tomorrow. This counselor was making unreasonable demands of my dad on the issue. She wanted her back tomorrow and was negotiating unreasonable times for her to be back. My dad's days are usually very scheduled out and he wants some downtime, otherwise he fears he would overextend himself and have a heart attack or stroke. On the time he negotiated for, he already has to leave work w/o permission and risk being fired to go to a nearby town to drop her off at a church to return with the camp people to this bible camp slash school.
My greatest worry is that my dad will waver and change his mind on moving to Idaho. My mother might be moving back soon with her husband and I dont wish to live with her. He said with a voice pregnant with doubt tonight that my mother may cause problems down there.
I have one more school year (2 semesters) at my local community college before I can transfer to BSU and I have no friends of note to help me leave this hell of a life. Just so anyone who thinks I can help leaving a bad situation, it is clearly impossible.
Many members of my family are religious nuts. I worry they will steal the joy of anime and other nerd things because they "are not Christian"
I am worried that my dad will die first as a result of all of the BS he is going through.
I am so depressed that my words are getting blocky and I am not using proper grammatical conventions in this post. I sound nearly obsessed with my fears when talking with my aunt.
Anyone at all have any advice or comforting words.
I have both. Let your father know what a good job he is doing (advice). Do whatever it takes to keep yourself (and him) strong (advice). It sounds like you are genuinely concerned about him and proud of him, and he is lucky to have you (comforting words?). Yes, I know you want him to be near you and that is your own personal motivation but the important thing is that you appreciate him.
Keep me posted on the situation...
