Another day, another rant. What a life I lead.
How do I begin without sounding like an idiot/brat.
Okay...There is a site I go on that is very child friendly. There are 8 year olds on the site, and so it has to be pretty low key on anything too mature.
There are also alot of adults who go on the site, and as a result they have a special 18+ board. It isn't locked or anything the way it is here, and everybody can read it, but it is purely a space for people who are over 18 to talk and everything.
Now, I don't have a problem with the fact that the adults get their own board that is seperate. Sure, they won't exactly want to discuss cartoons.
But the fact that they call anyone my age a kid I find rather insulting. Perhaps more so because I know that whilst I may be 13 and there are plenty of immature 13 year olds, I'm not one of them. I don't like being grouped with 8 year olds and being called a kid.
This is exactly why I hate being 13, because I am never allowed into the circles where I most fit. The adults are talking about books whilst the 'kids' are talking about cartoons and a whole bunch of other things I have no interest in what so ever.
They talk about how life changes so much when you become an adult. Yeah, life does change when your an adult. I know that. Sure, I'm only 13, but how could I not realize it when I know that I will never be able to live a normal life the same way everyone else can?
When I was 10 I would lie and pretend I was 18 when I went on to forums, and I loved it simply because people were treating me the way I wanted to be treated, and would talk to me the same way they would talk to another adult, which is how I like to be talked too.
-laughs- and now it seems like I am just complaining about the adults board. But perhaps its more the fact I hate being treated as a normal child when I'm not. I has AS, anxiety, depression, anger issues and a level of knowledge that exceeds anyone else of my age group that I know. Let's face it, I am not normal and I never will be.
They say that it should only allow people over 18 to see the board so they can talk about things which would otherwise not be age appropriate discussions. But then where do I fit in to this, really?
I love WP, because it is one of the few places where it doesn't really matter that I'm 13, I can still join in more 'mature' topics. Yes, there is a board closed off from me, but I have no interest in learning about anybody's sex life thank you very much.
-sigh- I never fit in anyway. I am an outcast in the child and teenage areas, and rejected from the 'mature' areas. No wonder I am so screwed up.
*hugs* don't worry, we understand here. Even as an adult I can still encounter the same frusturations because often I feel like the conversations of nearly all my friends aren't intellectual enough to satisfy me, and I can only be satisfied by talking to one or two of my (genius smart) type friends.
When I was your age I didn't really even bother talking to people much, I just read tons of books instead, mostly ones way past my age bracket, so I guess I got my conversation fulfillment through them instead.
That's the great thing about this site, that I can get some satisfaction for the conversational cravings of my intellectual aspie side. It's like scratching a very ancient, irritating, itch.
As far as the adult forum goes, don't worry, you're not missing out on much or anything (at your age) you'd find interesting, unless you are also very sexually mature too.

Into the dark...
I know how you feel. When I was 13 I was constantly being called kid and treated like one when I felt more grown up. I also was going through depression too.
When I was 15 I started college early and for the first time was treated like an adult. People said I was more mature than the other people in my age group that also started college early. I was into left wing politics whereas they were into music, boys/girls and that type of crap.
It's not fair that the older board members treat you like a child. All I can say is ignore it and still participate in threads that you have an interest in. Take what people say on the internet with a grain of salt. Who knows there could be some trolls in the forum trying to get a rise out of you.
Back in my activist days people would ask me how old I was, because they thought the opinion of a 16 year old didn't matter, especially when arguing with pro-capitalists about communism. But I was too stubborn to quit.
I'm sorry but 13 is still a kid. It didn't bother me when I was called a child or kid at that age.
You are legally an adult when you are 18 but I consider 21 to be a real adult because you can drink and gamble in all states.
You are at an age where kids want to have more doors open in their lives, they want more freedom. That is why it is called an adolescent because you are going from childhood into adulthood. You're mind is starting to turn into an adult so that is why you want more rights, more freedom. That is why being a teen is tough.
We all feel like our parents treat us like babies, little kids when we are teens because we want more freedom. Our feelings change so it seems like our parents change.
Luckily I didn't have friends my age and I didn't go out and I didn't go to lot of parties so I didn't need to argue with my parents about having to be home at a certain time, not being allowed to go, arguing about seeing a movie. Instead I argued about the house not being neat, my brothers being too loud, them not being good enough parents, them not caring about me because they wouldn't give me what I wanted. They refused to have the house look like a palace just so I wouldn't have anxiety and be depressed, refused to not allow my brothers to have parties.
Here is some friendly advice, don't tell people how old you are on the forum.
I heard some people don't disclose their age on forums because they don't want to be looked down on and they want to be taken seriously, not get "Oh what do you know, you're just a kid" crap.
I guess some people would rather use age against you when they disagree. I am sure young adults get the same crap too. People think their opinions about life doesn't matter because they haven't been an adult for long. I have seen a few people say they have more experience in life than someone does just because they are many years older than that person.
I don't care about going to parties or going out to places. I care about people acutally respecting me.
On this website even the slightest hint of an arguement occuring and a thread is closed. The adults are asking for the right to have debates, since whilst 'the kids might get too emotionally invested in really little things' the adults are mature enough to have a debate. Who are they to say that I will get too emotionally invested in little things? I love debates, because it gives me an oppertunity to learn more about the topic that is being discussed.
I'm not going to get started on the idea that they have been talking about (how people younger than 18 shouldn't look in the board at all)

To try and be fair, I can understand why the admin made an adults board, and why they believe they should be allow to have debates and all that stuff. But at the same time I don't believe that anyone younger than 18 should be treated as entirely naive. We shouldn't have our conversations limited to petty things just because they worry about arguements.\\
@Spokane_Girl: If that's the case I've been an adolescent since I was 7 years old ^_^
