I'm 24, still live at home, never had a girl friend, so my mother buys me a box of chocolates and cooks me diner for valentines day. I feel like such a loser. :( Anyone else get the valentines day pity treatment?

Sounds like we're the same, except my mom never got me any chocolates. :( (No one in my family actually celebrates Valentines, to be honest I don't think any of us were even aware of it - Cultural thing I guess).

But I can understand why it is upsetting. A day like today, can be a reminder of the differences between you and others who 'have it better'. I feel down aswell during times like those. But do those others really have it better? Well, I guess one can never really know. I kinda just gave up, about meeting someone, so emotionally I am numb, regarding this issue. Maybe it's not what you should do. In time I guess you will find within yourself who or what is right. Good Luck...

Nah, there's no need for pity. :) It's entirely societal pressure to hook up with someone. I usually just take myself out. Today I found out that a local restaurant chain was having a special for singles -- free beer or cheap sangria with purchase of a meal! See, the couples were left out of that.

i never got that kind of treatment

last night was valentines day. i went out to dinner with my mother and then to the theatre to see Billy Elliot the Musical. it was fantastic.
I bought her the tickets for christmas. i picked that date because all of january was sold out. seriously.
i just picked feb 14 as a random date.

anyway, if you don't have a partner you can just use valentines day as a reason to have fun with friends and/or family or just indulge yourself.

Not exactly, but it does remind me of the sad fact that I don't have a girlfriend. I never actually did anything special yesterday.

I've gotten so use to it that I guess it's no longer a big deal. But I do get sick and tired of people telling me about they're partner like what they're going to get them, what they'll being doing, where their wedding's going to take place, where they're going to live, what kind of interests and hobbies they'll be doing TOGETHER!! :x

I even lost a dear friend to this..... :(

I'm 28, I still live at home also, and never had a true boyfriend. My stepfather buys me a box of chocolates, though I don't consider them pity chocolates. *shrugs*

We pretty much share the same experiance, except you're a guy and I am 4 years older. Heck, we even live in the same state 8)

But yeah, I hate the big emphesis on 'that special someone' this time of year. What about us folks who lack that 'special someone?' :?

It's just another socially silly day.

A "special" day just reeks of...stupidity to me; you should always treat the people you love the best you can, no matter what the day is.

Heh, I don't even know what date valentines day is, I only know that it passed a little while ago. I don't care anyways. No need to celebrate some stupid event which will never play an important role in my life. :?
