It's called a sort of mid life crisis. I am just saying that might be one reason why he is feeling so down.

Might have been better if (a) you were more subtle about it and (b) bothered to get some detail first.

I was treated for clinical depression a few years back, along with acute anxiety. No , it's nothing to do with being 50 (I'm still waiting to grow up). I still play rugby & ride a 190+ mph bike (and use it).
It's a work related thing that's been dragging around for 18 months.

A mid life crisis is when you do something drastic like buy a sports car. It is when you are as we call it over the hill. Alot of people when they hit their mid life crisis start getting depressed so I thought that that might be what the person is feeling.

I gave a silervack gorilla a lollipop today, he seemed thankful. That same gorilla hates rabbitears but seems to really like me.
