I don't think it has to do with where you live. It's just some people have the ability. I have smelled the rain before it started up in Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida and Arizona. I have also smelled snow on the way (which is entirely different smell) in TN, NC and AZ. I always thought it had to do with having aboriginal heritage. Ever since I broke my leg 5 years ago I have been able to accurately predict every snow fall for the past 4 years because the bone starts hurting a day before a snow. Why its attuned to snow and not rain too I have no clue. I make people at work mad though because I'll say "it is going to snow" and they will say "shut up" because they didn't want it to snow.

Is smelling rain an aspie/autie thing? I thought anyone could smell it. I know my mother has smelled it too because she has made comments about it.

I know I definitely can! Here in Australia, people know what you're talking about if you say you can smell rain (and don't think you're crazy!), so I thought it was something that anybody could do, too.

Yes, I can, and love the smell.

I can't smell rain as such, but I love the smell of soil when it's been dry and then it rains.

Dunno, if it's a smell or what, but I can always tell when it's going to rain. I'd say that after it rains there is definitely a certain smell.

Oh yes, and it is marvelous too. I await Arizona's monsoon, the rains of summer!

I didn't know it was possible for someone to not be able to smell rain.

I can. In fact, I can smell a lot of unusual things that NTs can't.

I think it depends if you live somewhere dry or not.

I met a German who was visiting on business. Someone said "smells like rain" and he started laughing - couldn't believe you could smell rain.

I suppose in UK and northern Europe, they get so much rain its always there.

I thought everybody could smell rain. It's a great smell and considering how much I enjoy rain, it makes me glad.

I've never liked the smell of rain. It reminds me too much of puppy breath, another smell I don't like.

It's not the rain you are smelling, it's the ozone the lightning produces.
