These are exactly my thoughts as well. I have a lab and 3 cats right now. I love my dog to bits but some days he just has way too much energy for me and he stresses me out when he paces or stares at me. My cats just chill out most of the time but are always up for a cuddle when I want one. Only one of them is ever demanding and all she usually demands is a cuddle or a brush so I can deal with that (she's turning out to be a bit of a cranky old woman at 14 years old). They're also good entertainment with just a piece of string or a
crocheted pylon
