Any dog owners here? I have a 20 pound West Highland White Terrier. He will be 6 years old in November. I am a first time dog owner too.

Few questions.

How often do you vaccinate your dog against bordetella or Leptospirosis?
My dog does go to the groomers every 5 weeks. My parents and I board him at this pet resort once a year. I don't take my dog to dog parks or dog shows. I did take him to one dog show when he was 11 months old, because one of his relatives were in the show ring. But I now go to dog shows alone. His parents are both retired show champions.

Do you use Frontline Plus, K9 Advantix, Vectra 3D or anything else for flea/tick preventative? Not many vets in the Northern VA area carry Vectra 3D. I know it's newer than Frontline and K9 Advantix.

I have a puppy, Maltese cross toy poodle, 4 months old now.
I vaccinated him and I use frontline!

my building don't aloud dogs for some stupid reason but i have a cat and a bird.

I have a Wheaten Poodle cross, he's 7. I use Frontline and he gets vaccinated. My building doesn't take pets, so he's living with my parents.

im not suppose to have pet since im renting,
but the owner is a friend, and the owner of the whole building is the same person,
so im kinda betting that he won't do anything about it

I have 2 westies. They get the regular vaccinations once a year and rabies every three years. I use frontline for flees and ticks. You absolutely have to keep westies upto date with their flee and tick treatments as they are very prone to skin infections and flees and ticks are one of the big causes of this.

I have a 6 year old Miniture Foxy. He gets vaccinated once a year as I go on holidays and have to put him in a kennel (kennel cough and other things). I use frontline on him for ticks and fleas.

I have two 2 year old poodles, I think they both had 3 vaccinations.

AWW How old are your Westies?
Some vets in Northern VA that I talked to do once a year bordetella, some do every 6 months. Also some do the canine lepto once a year, and some don't do canine lepto at all. Vectra 3D is the newest flea/tick. It protects the dogs against lice, mites, mosquitoes and flies too. His previous vet was overpriced, but they carry Vectra 3D so I only use his previous vet to purchase the Vectra 3D. His current vet is more affordable.

I have mixed-race Griselda, she's 4 y.o. She's vaccinated every July - against Rabies and other diseases.

Are your 2 Westies related? Female and male? Who is the boss? My uncle has 2 Westies and they are 8 and 9. The female is the oldest, but she was there first and she is the boss. My uncle has big Westies though. They are 26-28 pounds! Mine is 20 pounds.

So my dog's previous vet required twice a year of bordetella and once a year of the canine lepto vaccine. His current vet requires once a year of bordetella and no canine lepto.

I usually have 4-6 dogs at one time. Right now, I have 5. I have a papillon, 3 long haired chihuahuas(one is the puppy of the other two), and a Parson Russel Terrier(the name for the tall variety of the jack russel).

Although I don't really own the dog, I do have a dog that lives at my house. She's a Gordon Shepard. Very energetic dog but, dumb as a box of rocks. She got kicked out of dog school for being too agressive around other dogs and people. The sheds and gets hair and dust everywhere. I'm not really a dog person.

I have a dog too. Not sure what breed he is...great little guy though. Lots of personality. I use K9 Advantix for fleas & ticks. Although lately, it hasn't been as effective as I'd like. Poor baby has been itching & scratching like crazy. Apparently, he's allergic to fleas. All it takes is 1 stinking flea, & he's miserable. I use a flea comb also to remove the little buggers.
