An argument I've seen/heard from people who think being gay is a choice is "well, if there is a gay gene why hasn't it been wiped out? Gay couples can't reproduce to pass on the gene."

People like that aren't just idiots, they are a**holes.

Gay people can't reproduce? Since when?

I think he means they can't reproduce with each other. You have to have a male and female, one way or another, to create babies.

I know, but it's flawed thinking nonetheless. I know many gay people with biological children.

It's possible for a gay man or woman to have a child with someone straight, but it's also possible that a gay man and gay woman have a child together. Not all people come out. The suggestion that they can't reproduce is ridiculous.

I understand now. Also there are sperm clinics and surrogate mothers who have a couple's baby for them.

Gay people can reproduce the normal way. They can adopt. They can “hire” a woman as a surrogate.

And lesbian couples can go to a sperm bank.

Of course they can....

And, gay men can make deposits at a sperm bank.

I don't think I would feel comfortable doing that. Besides bipolar disorder is genetic and I wouldn't want to risk passing it to a poor kid.

Homosexuals can reproduce, they just prefer not to it by having intercourse with opposite sex because it feels as unnatural to them as it would feel to heterosexuals to have intercourse with the same sex.

Just like it feels as unnatural for a left-handed person to use their right hand the same way it would for a right-handed person to use their left hand.

And for an asexual person it feels unnatural no matter what someone else's gender is. And if someone says, "You just haven't met the right person yet," then I guess that means straight people haven't found the right gay person, and vice versa.

I heard some homosexuals claim that being gay wasn't a choice, it was their genetics. Saying it that way implies that there is a gay gene which would be phased out if homosexuals didn't reproduce. That line of reasoning would give homophobes an excuse to try to prevent homosexuals from reproducing which of corse would be BAD for the homosexual community.

Homosexuality not being a choice doesn't mean that it is caused by a gay gene that gets passed on. Homosexuality could also occur as a random mutation and in that case homosexuality would not go extinct even if gay people never reproduced.
