On a related note, on my first date with my wife, we went out to sit on the beach late in the evening and had the most amazing display of shooting stars that I have ever seen. Fantastic - you couldn't buy romance like that! I still tell her that I had it laid on specially LOL
Wow, how lucky was that! It must have made your first date even more special

Ahhh damn, im at work, i get breaks but the parkinglot has bright lights, i always hated light pollution, never understood why we need all of those lights. Thats whats nice about the Adirondacks, its one of the darkest places on Earth, everytime I go their I have to look up, I see sooo many more start their then where I live 2 hours away from the southern blue line in NY. The edge of our galaxie was soo breath taking one night, while looking up in my little boat, in the middle of a nice isolated lake, eveyone in my camp site was asleep, and so i went out alone, fully awair of the dangers, but once i got away from the canopy, and saw the clear, cold sky above, I was astonished, very luck to be able to see this site, when sooo many go their whole loves without .
Light pollution is a huge problem. Even where I live which is rural, the house at the back has a security light that usually pops on and off all night if its windy. Luckily it didn't last night. I love it when I can see the Milky Way, but it isn't usually dark enough where I live to see it, because of the street lights. The Adirondacks sound like a brilliant place for star-gazing.
