Depending on the medication you should not be drinking at all, and doing so can in some cases be dangerous.

Check the information sheet provided with the meds but in general, don't.

I remember you mentioning you are on an anti-psychotic of some kind and I think an antidepressant?

For both drugs, it is recommended that you do not mix them with alcohol.

However, many people on these medications do just that.

The possible complications are usually liver issues. I.e, high quantities of alcohol mixed with psychiatric medications can cause liver damage.

So if you do drink alcohol, you shouldn't have lots of alcohol, whilst on these meds.

And that is not even mentioning the increased incidence of the side effects of the psych' drugs when mixing alcohol with those psychiatric meds.

What are symptoms of liver problems?

Symptoms are not necessarily apparent in the early stages, until you end up with cirrhosis or something like that.

Maybe with some meds, depending on how they interact.

Some meds you shouldn't drink at all on. Bad combo known to cause problems together. Some meds might lose their effectiveness when taken with alcohol.

I asked a NP about having a beer while on antibiotics as the label on the meds said no alcohol. She told me that the reason for the label is so people don't binge drink and throw up the meds, but if I was only going to drink one tall can at the beach then it's no problem at all with that particular antibiotic. With some you shouldn't drink at all because alcohol can basically just kill the medication before it has a chance of working. Gotta research med by med to see - but in general if it says don't drink while on it.. don't drink. Better to be on the safe side if you don't Know it's safe to have one or two.

^ Yes, I was careful to steer clear of alcoholic drinks like 'Elvis Juice' (grapefruit flavoured) when I was on Atorvastatin. I've since chucked the statin after experiencing bad muscle pains and cramps as a side-effect.

On the Gin and diet sugar free tonic again this afternoon.

I've got a coffee in my thermos mug with a good old drop of Tia Maria in it.

i want to try cutting out drinking again, or just do it once a week like I am now. once these beers run out i will not purchase anymore

Don't think I've ever tried Tia Maria. Got some Tanqueray gin which seems a bit nicer than Gordons.

Oh it's a treat. I think it makes the coffee taste more coffee-er

I'm just over half way through a bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape, the first time I've ever sampled this world-famous wine. It was £12.99 from Aldi, about three times what I'd normally pay for my usual bottle of cheapo rubbish. Only the second time in my life that I've ever bought a bottle of 'expensive' wine - tried a bottle of Amarone della Valpolicella once, but that was around 20 years ago.

Was surprised to learn that 'Chateauneuf du Pape' isn't a particular wine from one vineyard, but is a general term applied to many wines grown in the Avignon region of France, and covers almost twenty types of grape used in white wines and Rosés as well as red from almost 200 vineyards.

This stuff is 14.5% alcohol by the way, which is probably the strongest you can get in a wine before you get into the 'fortified' derivatives like sherry and port.
