On my 4th day without alcohol now. Have to go for a blood test in a couple of weeks so I'm hoping it won't be too bad..

Might try and have 3 cans of beer just before I go out to the pub and then stick to alcohol free beer for the rest of the night.

Basically go to the pub with a slight buzz on me. That's just my method of drinking less alcohol from now on

Bought some local vodka finished in tequila barrels. Deeply discounted sale item (30% or so off) - not bad! Also made some Black Russians with it.

I wouldn’t pay full price for it but if it’s on sale like that again and pretty much the cheapest thing in the store I’d buy it again.

Do you think that is a good idea having a few cans at home before I go to pub then sticking to alcohol free for the rest of the night?

Is 3.5 ABV a low alcoholic drink?

If your goal is to drink less alcohol and 3 cans is less than you normally would drink, then it's a good idea to try that. Keeps a "beer," in your hand at the pub if you're drinking a dealcoholized beer, or just drink water/soda water etc. Probably costs less money to drink at home, too.

There are other ways to drink less that might work for you, too. Like going to the pub less often. Or drinking one pint of beer and then one or two pints of water and then another pint of beer and then another one or two waters.

At the beach I'll drink Most of a can of beer, then fill it with water. It still has a faint beer flavour and if I'm drinking IPA it has a light IPA-water taste. Then maybe I'll have a second can. Rarely ever drink a 3rd because I'm always driving or riding my motorcycle. Alternatively I drink a can and then switch to cans of fruit flavoured soda water, which have become a very popular non alcohol drink here the last few years. Vodka sodas of various brands, but also just soda waters - the most popular brand is "bubly," and I buy it at Costco 24 cans for about $10CDN + tax and deposit. I almost never drink sweet drinks so really like these.

I have cut out going to the pub from twice to once a week.

Also I could try by giving one whole weekend a miss a month

I had a couple of vodka mixers a couple of nights ago.

That is my update for this thread. :P

Have stopped with the gin and tonic as my drinking was getting out of control. It's like drinking water.

Had 4 cans of Guinness last night from the local shop. Easier to keep track of my units. £6.99 now for 4 cans though.

Still cheaper than here if it's any consolation. That's $12.02 cdn whereas 4 x 440ml cans is $13.99 + sales tax & deposit, so $16.06 total I Think.

I was talking to Reddit about how long people pace there pints for and someone responded “Heh, my first pint doesn’t last more than a minute. From there I slow down, but I never thought to time myself. I relax. I drink.”

I went around to 4 local liquor stores to see if they had any more of this one whiskey from a distillery that's just gone out of business. Didn't find another bottle.. but I did find a bunch of other stuff discounted 30-35%, which is almost unheard of. So, I bought a lot.. like $650+. Figured I'd buy a few bottles for gifts I know are coming up - Easter, a few birthdays, payment for a plumber that's offered to do some work for me for free, fathers/mothers day for my friend's parents etc and then a handful of bottles for myself to sip over time lol the next Year ? Figured wtf these things are never on sale/clearance like this so I'll buy them now and save ~$300 or so in the long run.

I've got a bottle of prosecco in the fridge that was complimentary in our hotel room. I'm gonna have it next weekend mixed with pink gin and lemonade
