why build a machine that costs billions that will wipe out all life on earth?

If the entire Earth gets sucked into a black hole, then you won't be around to say anything.

Evidence, Please? You can destroy the world only once, by the way. So if the Earth has been sucked into a black hole, then there won't be world to destroy, nor will any attomic bombs survive the destruction, either.

What time are they supposed to do it over there? I'm about 5 hours behind them.

8:30 AM British Summer Time. It's 12:34am 9/10/2008 there now, so it's about 8 hours to go.

That'll make it 3:30 AM here. It would be nice if I didn't have to go to class tomorrow morning. :D

DejaQ said they're only going to start accelerating particles at that time, but the collisions are supposed to be later on in late October to early November.
