It is hard for me to come up with a description of a particular style. I like Roger Zelazny's style a lot. His prose is almost poetic. He like to juxtapose elements that normally would not be found together.

A chinchilla. Not really strange, but more uncommon than most.

Have you ever tried tacos de lengua? Yes it looks nasty, but only to those who haven't tried it at least once. :mrgreen:
