My mom told me last week that when she was a kid, yo-yos were really popular. But they were more of a boy's plaything. Girls would play with them too, but never seemed to be as good.

I wonder if that's some genetic thing or is society just plain sexist? When I was a kid girls were always into jumping rope for fun (except me).

I remember yo-yo's making a comeback in the 90's, but I haven't noticed them in a long while. Maybe they took them off the market because the helicopter moms were screaming that the strings would strangle their babies.

Anyway, that's not really about my family but I thought it was interesting enough to post.

When I was visiting on Canada Day my mom showed me an old photo of herself when she was a little girl. She was wearing kind of a cowgirl skirt, had very curly blonde hair, and looked a bit like Shirley Temple.

My parents made me go to college.

My parents were Southern fried Baptists. Since I was declared persona non grata in their congregation, I went Lutheran. One brother went United Methodist, and the remaining brothers do not go to church (one might as well be athiest, and the other works 7 days a week on rotating shifts.
