in school back in the stoned age, i saw another student with "ftw" on his peachie folder, and i asked him what it meant, and he spat out "---- the world!" so i guess it has multiple meanings. just my 2-cents' worth

Depends on the context. If someone is talking about how awesome/cool something is, they'd use it to mean "for the win", but if they're talking about how much their life/the world/society sucks, then it'd be "f the world".

The vast majority of times I've seen it used, it's been the former.

It's not the opposite meaning at all. 'WTF' is an expression of surprise and shock, not of disapproval, on it's own it's a neutral statement. Whereas 'FTW', in it's most common meaning, is a positive statement.

Then it was used wrongfully.

But it's an abbreviation used by millions of people, many of whom completely unaware of what it's supposed to express, so I'm not surprised that it's being distorted.

Woe is the language I love, it's abuse by people worldwide saddens me. :'(
