It was mentioned in a Tony Attwood book, so I decided to join up. I can't believe I was only 16 when I joined! I've grown and matured so much since then.

There was a link in a book that I read. The book had added a lot to my suspicions that I might have AS, so I decided to come and check out a community of people with AS to see if I related to them.

I joined about 2 or 3 months ago and I feel the same, even though I'm 30.

This is funny. I actually found this forum through the old Autism Speaks forum. I'd seen the url of Autism Speaks' website on a big ad at the mall (not that I spend lots of time at the mall, I just happened to be there then), and joined their forums. Then people on those forums kept complaining that they were being harassed by autistic people from Aspies For Freedom and Wrong Planet. I joined AFF, but hated the militancy of it. So I came here. So that's how I got here. I dropped the Autism Speaks forum after it was clear that there were only parents of little kids on there, along with Age and a couple other autist adults. I bailed on AFF quite a while before that forum blew up.

My mom asked me to join. Where I preferred to forget that I had Aspergers', she wanted me to accept it [to the point where, when I did have a girlfriend, I was supposed to tell her about it, but downright refused - but that's a different story]. I had nothing better to do, so I joined. I still come here once in a while when I'm bored, but accept that it's almost impossible to make real connections through the Internet [also a different, and long, story, having nothing to do with WP, though it does intersect with Aspergers' at one or two points].

I was struggling with my differences and I decided to look up Asperger sites after I was diagnosed.

I must say I love it here, you all are my online family.

I have the notion that there is a forum for everything, and I felt the urge to connect with other Aspies as a means of belonging among my own kind, so Googled 'aspergers syndrome forum' and got WrongPlanet.net as my first option... *click*

I was reading about Stanley Kubrick, one of my favorite directors, on Wikipedia. At the end of the article it mentioned that he was probably (!) Aspie and listed this website. So I checked it out, and at first I wasn't convinced everyone was REALLY Aspies. But after awhile I joined and started posting. Still here after all these years ....

I think I found it through a google search on asperger's syndrome, but I am not entirely certain.

I joined because I wanted to understand more about the autistic mind and myself. Since infancy I have been seen as different and even strange compared to everyone else. The idea that there was a large population of people who shared the traits that make many people think I am alien, and that there is a website on which some of them communicate, interested me.

I heard about it years ago. Since I tend to get along horribly with other aspies and have a less-than-stellar opinion of the whole neurodiversity/autism rights thing I scoffed at people suggesting I come here. Last year I decided I'd at least give it a try.

When I was diagnosed almost 10 years ago, some professional from the school I went to gave me a link to the forum.

I heard of WP from a couple sites I went to but didn't really think anything about joining at the time. I was having problems on some other forums & problems with finding a girlfriend that I thought could be related to my Aspergers so I decided to join.

I heard about Asperger's and Wrongplanet being mentioned on Socialanxietysupport(SAS) forums years ago. I didn't decide to join until I seriously considered the possibility that I had Asperger's.

My family suggest that I might have aspergers. Googled aspergers one day, and found another site:"the Aspie Hangout" on Delphi forums. I became a regular on the aspie hangout for a couple years. In fact I asked about, and learned about a local aspie support group in my city from someone on that site.

Then I somehow (maybe from the aspie hangout, or somewhere) heard about the Wrongplanet site.

Checked it out. Hung on both sites. But the old site began be dominated a small group of folks, and then it had technical problems so that I (probably no one) could access it. Gradually forgot the aspie hangout and became a WP regular. The Aspie Hangout got fixed but the few times I have visited it in the last few years it was a total ghost town.
