I visited Quebec for a few weeks one summer (in the early 80z)
The college 'friend' who was with me (briefly in Montreal) seemed quite hostile to the French language (especially when I was speaking to the locals IN French) and commented that:
'The British should have taken care of the problem when they had the chance'
I especially enjoyed Quebec City, as I was there during the the annual Jazz Festival (and the culturally challenged idiot had departed)
The Green Citadel on the approach to the City is spectacular

The only thing that I often sense is their allegiance to their much-ballyhooed socialized health care system.
