I put some fish food and an algae wafer in there, but he doesn't seem too interested...

Update: I transferred him and his friends (there's a lot of tiny things swimming about in the algae) into a taller jar, and since I don't really have anything at the bottom except sand for him to grab onto, he finds that the algae wafer makes a pretty good anchor, and has been nibbling on it a bit.

Last night he was doing this odd thing where he kept rocking back and forth, holding onto one of the driftwoods. Don't know what that was about, but he gave it up after I set it drifting.

Maybe he was feeling landsick...there were some mighty ferocious waves when I pulled him out of Lake Michigan @_@

I found one yesterday morning on our patio, and put it in a jar with some water and sticks. After reading a bunch online about them eating minnows, I decided to throw some canned salmon in (I figured I could rescue "Fred Ted" - my 6-year-old's name for it - if things went south). The beetle went nuts! You would have thought he was killing the small piece of fish. Today I put more in, and he did the same thing. I'm a rookie here, but will try to post a picture...
