People aren't so stupid that they would destroy the whole world. As senseless as wars may seem to some, they are almost always fought for personal benefit or gain. There is nothing to gain by destroying the world. The people in power have worked extremely hard to get there, and they value what they have far too much to simply throw it away if it can possibly be avoided. That is after all the reason they sought such power in the first place.

World leaders only act dumb, you have to be pretty intelligent to reach and maintain the positions they hold. There is nothing to worry about unless you're in the armed forces, and even then, only the forces of a select few nations. I'd imagine those forces do not include many autists, so generally speaking we'll be fine.

I happen to live near Parris Island. Is this a likely target. I doubt it. Besides, if a nuke ever got fired towards the U.S., it'd be shot out of the sky before hitting the jackpot.

You don't have "limited" wars when nuclear weapons are involved.

When a war like that becomes global everywhere is a target. Fallout is a real threat. We still have deformaties being born in London from the effects of Chernobyl, parts of Lapland still have contaminated moss. Fallout doesn't have to kill you with accute radiation poisoning it simply has to get the radioactive isotopes into the water supply or the food chain and you have lukemia, cancer, mutations, deformaty, still births, shortened lifespan's

A 3000 megaton exchange would make the northern hemisphere nearly uninhabitable. The arsenal of the big boys could raise that level even higher.

I'm happy to be living in Canada.

It would save me the bother of looking for jobs next week.

I understand this, however, the reason they're senseless to us is because while the big guys are getting their toes polished, the rest of are nothing but an evolved version of egyptian slaves. And those who have knowledge are pretty much keeping it behind closed doors. Fending off competiton. It's just the lies. I don't give a rats behind if they care to keep it behind closed doors, etc, etc, but they ain't saying anything truthful about any of this stuff. Have to jump fences trying to figure this stuff out, leaving room for major error.

You are aware, of course, that the Israelis blew up another Iranian reactor, back in the Eighties when the USSR was still going strong. All that happened was that the Iranian nuclear program was delivered a serious setback, and the UN passed another strongly-worded resolution condemning Israel's actions.

Today, the Russians have no interest whatsoever in attacking anyone. (The Soviets only wanted to do so because of their creepy little state religion pretending to be Communism.) The Chinese are similarly disinterested - they've got too much invested in the US, both in terms of Treasury bonds and in their customer base (us) to want to see the US go away. The Iranians will be upset, of course - so the UN will pass another resolution to keep them happy.

Take it from a former nuclear-war planner - there is absolutely no chance of the OP's scenario coming to pass. Unless, of course, you can find some way to reconstitute the USSR by this weekend, resurrect Krushchev to run it, then replace Obama with Reagan somehow...
