"You can do anything you set your mind to" hmmm, are people taking things a bit too literally here?

I bet she does, I've seen some very good avatars over time so I'm guessing the art is up to scratch too

When people like your folks or people in school tell you that you can do or be anything you want to be with enough hard work and determination, is that like saying to an ugly person that they're beautiful on the inside?

Sort of ... but it's more like saying, "You can be as beautiful as you want with enough spackle, primer, and enamel."

What may be more applicable in the real world is, "You that you can do or be anything you want to be with enough hard work and determination ... provided that you first know what your limitations are so that you can overcome them."

My parents and teachers always seemed to leave off that last part.

I believe this.

Yeah it won't make you go to saturn. But if you put your mind to it, you could get people to blast your corpse to saturn.

I would be more inclined to take that phrase more seriously if it wasn't something a purple dinosaur sings about  The fact that someone does that proves that some can not be anything they want because I highly doubt anyone would actually dream of a job like that & in the rare case someone does want that job; they cant because it's already taken
