Yes, mine was huge and wild and I did things like that -- turning the house into something else and imagining that I was at a different place. A lot of times I would retreat into my own world when I wasn't reading Biology...

My imagination still runs wild...

Yes, I had a wonderful imagination as a kid. Still do thanks to probably what amounts to other people as an over-developed fantasy life

Still, the worlds conjured up in childhood seemed much better - perhaps less of other rubbish getting in the way, but as the OP said, the most ordinary of setting or object could become the focus of hours of fascinated story-creating. I miss and envy the ease with which that came, as it gave me so much near-bliss that I now want back in my life.

Interesting as well that all the accounts here go completely against the 'standard' criteria for AS, i'm sure the 'no imagination' line gets used to exclude AS diagnoses & wrongly-so.

I'm still quite imaginative. Sometimes I wish I had less imagination, because spacing out and daydreaming have gotten me into some awkward and embarrassing moments throughout the years.

But it is wonderful to have a colorful and entertaining world inside my head when I need to escape the tedium of planet Earth. :)

That it is. I'm self-entertaining! :D

I was an odd kid. I don't know if you'd call me imaginative so much as creative though.

I was unhappy unless I was working on something at all times. Sometimes I'd write stories and draw pictures around the words, then I'd color and bind my pages into little books and give them to my parents at bedtime to read with me. Then when I was eight or so I became obsessed with polymer clay for a while. It was expensive though so I had to make everything in miniature: miniature lions, miniature motorcycles, tiny little flowers, and sometimes minuscule people but mostly small animals.

Lastly, I used to play this game where I'd close my eyes and imagine scenes that I knew, like my old house, and I'd try to reverse north and east in my mind, so that the sun would rise and set in a different direction, affecting how light fell on everything.... people generally don't understand when I try to explain this, but I would try to see how long I could keep a visual concept of this sort of complex scene as I walked down the street in my mind.

I also was pretty good at guessing how something would look from the sky for some reason. I got pretty good at impromptu maps, even when I was very young.

My imagination as a child was really wild and often just plain weird (to my parents and siblings anyway). Between playing make-believe and daydreaming, I lived in a world of my own. I did things out of curiosity and fascination that worried and confused my parents. I think the most unusual thing I did (at age 8 years) was play funeral with a neighbor girl. Needless to say, her mother never allowed her to play with me again.
