I work in social services and have seen some pretty bad cases of abuse and neglect. That stuff is rather hard to talk about, though.

As far as the grossest thing I've ever witnessed, my friend and I were eating in a restuarant once, when someone at the table right next to ours suddenly vomited all over their table. It was really liquidy and splashed all over the chair next to mine. I was ready to leave, but my friend actually wanted to stay. He said, "I paid good money for my meal and I'm not letting them ruin it for me!"

For some reason a few years ago I looked for, and unfortunately found, one of the Iraqi hostage execution videos.
Those animals clumsily hacked this guy's head off and I saw and heard it all, and I wish I hadn't.
I still can't get his final gurgling cry of fear/rage/surprise out of my head.

b9, #2 had me in tears. That must have been so difficult to deal with.

Happening live infront of me, nothing. Have seen after effects of an accident a few times. Mutilated bodies and such. But what haunted me most in the past was my work at a forensic lab -- the murders were so heartless and brutal.

Burn victims. I don't know if living or dead is worse.

I've never seen anything like someone killed in person, or anything really. But for the sake of saying something, probably seeing a crying classmate in 4th grade, the day after he father shot and killed her mother, then committed suicide. But I've never had any nightmares about it, nor been bothered by it much.

I saw a turtle explode. That's about it.

I have no clue why, but I've always had this fear of witnessing blunt abdominal trauma. Missing or mangled limbs, gaping cuts and decapitations have never bothered me, but hearing about, or seeing, severe abdominal wounds (like someone who's entrails are visible) has always made me feel sick or more uncomfortable than other injuries. :?

The most "horrible" thing I've witnessed, is really more of the saddest thing I have witnessed: my grandfather passing away. I loved him more than anything, was so close to him, and that image will stay with me forever.

As for horrible--as in DISTURBING--things, I have been quite lucky in that respect as I haven't witnessed too many things like some of what you guys have mentioned already.

Probably the most disturbing thing I have witnessed was a mallard duck mating ritual. If you picture humans instead of mallard ducks it is equivalent to an awful gang rape. But nothing that has scarred me for life.

Oh maybe the gun that was pointed at my face during a robbery. That was pretty horrible. But again...well, I still went to work the next day (where it happened).

You guys have seen many things worse than what I have seen.

I saw a fight down the block about a month ago when I first moved into my current apartment. An opposing gang came to fight with the gang that lives on my block. It was mostly hitting but they got one kid down on the ground and were kicking him over and over in the face. That or maybe about a week later I saw some people taking pictures smiling sitting on a tree that had just gone through someone's window. It made me angry because instead of worrying about the people that it affected they seemed to find it amusing, I don't understand how anyone could be happy that a tree went through someone's window.

There are probably some other things that are worse, but I have a terrible memory and those were the first things that popped into my mind.

When the front tire of a sedan collides with them at 70 miles per hour, indeed they can.

Being in the same room as my autistic brother when he was biting of chunks of his lower lip.

The doctor prescribed him anti-psychotic drugs (not sure which). My brother started having side effects so my mom told the doctor and he prescribed twice as much of the anti-psychotic drug, saying that it just needs time to get in his system. Thats when my brother went psychotic thanks to the ANTI psychotic drugs and began chewing off his lower lip. The doctor, by the way, went on a two week vacation the same day my brother lost it.

I remember the room being dark and my dad sitting next to my brothers bed waiting to grab my brother if he started up again. My brother would just lay there, not moving and not making a sound, and then he'd just start screaming and forcing his lip into his mouth and biting down and then my dad trying to keep my brother from harming himself. When it was time to take my brother to the hospital I remember walking back into the room and my dad had his hand cupped and in it were the bloody chunks of my brothers lip.

Not the grossest story in the world, but it left a mark on my young 11 year old mind and I never will forget that night.

I suppose the worst I ever saw, was a man or woman burning alive in a car that was stuck hopelessly under a big truck. The flames were so bright that I could only see the silhouette of the person. Nobody could get close enough to help, and the car was stuck shut so he/she couldn't get out. I saw the driver moving frantically trying to open the doors, and then they stopped moving inside the car in a couple seconds. God bless, I hope it was quick. That was 5 years ago. I'll live with that vision for the rest of my life.

Ah, right. Yes, they quite probably would.

I saw a pigeon burst - it was calmly pecking around on the ground, but too close to the front wheel of a bus. The bus then abruptly pulled away from the bus stop and ran over it, leaving an empty feathered sac with a fan-shaped red mess on one side of it. It was curiously neat and tidy, which puzzled me.
A woman at the bus stop screamed and passed out but I don't think the bus driver had any idea what had happened because he just carried on driving.
