What does that have to do with Autism?

Autistics are slower to react, so by the time the danger passes, they effectively don't react other than to say "Ouch, my eye!".

That's just not true.

So with the poking finger - how do you think an NT should react?
With a faster attention switching speed, an NT would gasp, shield themselves from the poke and then suddenly retaliate by poking them back in the eyes.
And so would many Aspies/Auties.
I'm with Tea on this one...

Ditto.

However, I do have startle responses to things I don't expect, so...not so sure I agree with your premise, either, swbluto.

The premise is based around what you do expect...

I flinched a little and a shock went through my body, but I didn't overreact.

I was too busy trying to figure out how it died to be startled when it struck out against the cameraman.

"Just because something is predictable doesn't mean it isn't scary."

Maybe in some cases (like a real-life potential attacker), but not in a video.

Unless that's just me.

I expected it to strike, but I didn't expect to be surprised and fall back and jump a little.

Yeah, a video would seem less "threatening" and scary.

Of course, maybe you're just fearless, like a ninja. :)
