There is nothing more pointless than an internet troll.

If they're losing an argument, they just bust out the "umad" and then say nothing else. You can't win anything, prove anything or bother them, it's always best to just ignore them entirely.

But ya know what they say about people who act big behind a computer screen anyways.

I want to discuss what people do or have done in the past about people trolling them on say Youtube or message boards, etc.

First off here's my policy.
First and foremost: Don't react. In fact it is better to not even put them on ignore unless it gets out of hand. taking down a comment and/or blocking them is a form of reaction, but this is to be done in certain cases. For one thing, I normally just leave the comment there and say to myself "just let them look stupid."

Second: Do not let their random or maybe not so random comments get to you. Remember, you've got friends, everyone has at least one usually more. Why should you care what some person you hardly know thinks versus your friends. Keep that in mind.

Third: The ignore command is or even the report command is to only be used if the same person escalates their attacks. One or two comments on a video and then it stops does not count as escalating. If the comments get even more outrages, such as threats, REPORT!

Usually it does not go beyond the first rule of thumb. "Just let them look stupid."

In the past, early 2000, I was obsessively trolled by one person, which lead me to having high anxiety, but it was more or less a trigger for a bigger problem that I had. This troll had finally gotten me into a position where I knew I needed help. If it wasn't for this person, I wouldn't have the friends I have at group, I may not have the help I've been getting to get work and finally move along with my life. I am actually thanking this troll for that. It may not have been the right thing for this person to do, but alls well that ends well.

Just recently I had a melt down or rather high anxiety over my computer and having to redo windows and all this other stuff. Computer problems are a big trigger for me if it takes what I consider extreme measures, even though I'm well backed up to an obsessive level (not a bad thing to be backed up obsessively). Anyways, to the point, I was so anxious that bad timing brought a troll to my YT video, which got me to thinking obsessively about the commenter and then I replied back. Minutes later, I saw the folly of my reply deleted both comments and blocked him. What I should have done was not responded at all and just let the comment alone and not have it bother me. Unfortunately with my state of mind at the moment, anything that could get to me would get to me, so I was pretty much in limited control over my thoughts and actions.

So what are your stories? How do you deal with them? How have you dealt with them in the past as an aspie?

Aw it's really nice of you to share your experiences and advise. I know usually young people get trolled a lot. I'm lucky that it hasn't happened to me yet but If it ever does, the best policy is to not to react and report.

when I first got started with the internet, in my teens.... when they still were really just [rear end] wholes... I would fight back argue and intentionally enjoy the heated discussion. I thought of it as a fun part of the internet.

around my early 20's I used to start poking at their psychological profile... When I would recognize someone was trolling I would start to discuss with them, or the rest of the group what the root cause for their trolling on a topic might be. For example if their standard was "you people are all idiots and should get a life" I would start a discussion on how perhaps the troll themself is lashing out because they are ashamed that their time was being wasted on trolling rather than something fun like picking flowers or going on long walks down the beach... At the time I thought it was a very cool and hip way to reply... now when I look back, it was pretty dorky and very unimpressive but hey at least it was fun...

by my mid 20's after I had spent about 2 years or so offline and got back... I started to try to distract trolls... change the topic and become friends with them... sometimes it would work and actually a lot of them are much smarter than you would think.

around 4 or 5 years ago I owned a forum that was simi-successful... with about 10-40 regular members, and another 50 or so occational members... we managed to produce 100,000 posts per year (and would celebrate when it would happen) and had a lot of fun. We had 3 main trolls.

Those trolls sort of wrecked my interest in forums and eventually I lost interest in my own website that I was paying a couple-few hundred per year to keep running. AFter I left, the site became less and less active... and eventually I decided to shut it down because when offering to pass it along to someone else, no one else was willing to continue on.

When that happened... I lost my interest in trolls... I usually just avoid now... its not fun any more

I usually just ignore them but sometimes I'll troll them back. Everytime I've trolled someone back, they've NEVER responded to it. Is that what "pwning" a troll means? I'll pretend to agree with the troll and say things like, "Oh, thank you! You're so sweet!" or "I love you too! and I never hear from them again after that.

Most of the time I don't let them get to me. But if they do get to me or angry I troll them back 10 fold. Then I block them so they cannot retaliate or troll them back so bad they will not be able to think of something to say.

I delete their posts, and block their user. If I remember (and I don't usually), I will report the post to YouTube BEFORE deleting it.

Really? I see you whining about how users "talk about themselves" on at least a weekly basis. Doesn't seem like you're doing much of a good job at ignoring people ;)
