The thing that I've hated about school in my day, was that it was a prison where I've had to sit, for six hours in a row and get called names by the rest of the students, in my regular classes. If I dared to speak up, in class, the kids made fun of my Accent, as well. School was a comformist-pumping factory.

My big problem with school systems (most especially public schools, which are held to a certain norm by governmental law) is that they destroy the curiousity of dhildren by forcing them to take in useless information. Sure, addition and subtraction are important, but making a kid sit around for six hours and then go home and stare at a page for another hour or so? Doesn't sound too appealing to me.

Honestly, it's become such a socially-accepted norm that all children must go to school that any thought otherwise is considered ridiculous. For many people, it's "once school, always school", and the cycle merely continues through the years. But then, where was mankind before the advent of organized schooling? It's simple: he learned things on his own. He searched for answers, and eventually came upon the answers (well, not ALL the questions...). Sure, there were teachers, but they weren't the robots we are subjected to in the modern age. The first teachers were just scholars who felt the need to share their knowledge, and hoped to better mankind by passing on their learnings. I'm not suggesting we go back to this, however; it isn't an efficient or worthwhile way to learn. However, what I wouold suggest is this: having children be home-schooled to a certain point, THEN enroll them in a school. That way, they survive through childhood with their curiousity intact, and they are still able to learn the more advanced subjects efficiently.

But yeah, teachers are really a toss-up for me. Some are awesome, others suck REALLY bad. It depends on the person in question.

I hate the competition with other schools.
During my final year of schooling in 2001, the vice principal thought it was neccessary to scare the senior students into performing well in thier studies.
There were serious lectures given every week about how important our final year is, how we're expected to go to university and uphold the reputation of the school.
Other schools around the area were outperforming us so action was needed. The last year of school was actually no big deal and I found alternative ways to get to uni anyway. Only 40% of my class went to uni in the end :P

Pro-wrestler Shawn Michaels uses them to finish off his opponents ;)

The worst thing about school, for me, was not being in lessons. Outside the classroom, I hated the place (especially my jerkwad classmates, and those idiotic people who thought it a jolly wheeze to bully me). Inside the classroom I felt like I was being productive (well, except in science lessons. Then I wanted to be learning stuff I was interested in, like history).

As a place to get qualifications from, my school was great. As a place to preserve one's self-respect as someone who was a little bit different from the norm? It sucked. The place had a strong homophobic vibe to it, as well, which I never liked...

There was never anything good about school, and that was the worst thing about school.
