At the moment, mostly punk and post-punk from the late 70s/early 80s is my favourite music - especially stuff that came out of Manchester around then like The Fall (love them to tiny pieces), Buzzcocks and family (Magazine, Pete Shelley's solo stuff), Joy Division, The Smiths.
I'm from Manchester and I'm in a punky/noisy-sort of band, myself. Got our first gig next week, eep. We rehearsed this 'song' (if you can call it that) this week - it's basically one of our singers shouting and screaming a massive rant about everything, with me twiddling about and hitting the keyboard like I'm having rough sex with it, and the bassist and guitarist jabbing away like machines on crack. I don't know how well the audience will take it
Most of the stuff I write is quirky stuff about love, my guitarist writes folky stuff about death and the bassist writes psychedelic funk jams. I love my band, if that counts as 'music'!
Other stuff I like: Gang of Four, Spizzenergi, The Damned, 60s soul music, 60s girl group stuff, The Velvet Underground and all the solo projects that came from that, The Kinks, The Who, Love, Kraftwerk, John Foxx, Johnny Cash, Bacharach songbook, Can, some electronic stuff like Gold Panda, Erik Satie, a bit of jazz like Miles Davis and Coltrane (not a big jazz buff, though), Devo, Talking Heads, The Jesus and Mary Chain - I like Manic Street Preachers as a hangover from my teenage years. I like a lot of music.
