Gretchen Wilson's song Redneck Woman goes something like "I keep my Christmas lights on the front porch on all year long"...

day after christmas..some people around here still have their christmas lights up and on at night!

The nights are still long, the original reason for seasonal lights. (Formerly, a candle in the window, so workers returning home after dusk could more easily find their way.) I use light strings instead of traditional outdoor lighting anyway. A better quality of light that attracts fewer bugs.

One year I'd like to leave it up all year long, just change the decorations. I would have done it this year since my ex left... but my ever "sensible" 7 year old said it should be taken down after New Years.

When I get older I guess...been thinking of all the things I can possibly get away with and blame them on dementia or senility. I think I'd like to have a Harley too.

One year we DID leave it up until march, which is why I asked. We started joking about how it was a Valentine's day tree, a St. Patrick's day tree, etc. We didn't change the ornaments though, I like that.

We had ours taken down around the second week of Jan. On the 8th or 9th I believe.

My parents are very quick to take our Christmas trees out of the house only a few days after Christmas is over. I really enjoy the smell of the tree, so it's too bad that has to happen...
