I get an uncomfortable feeling if I look at ads. I always view them in a sleazy light. And if they have sound, they startle me, bringing me physical pain. Ads agitate me.

And people actually click on ads?...Is that a thing?
I clicked on ads accidentally because they're too intrusive. I wouldn't use AdBlock if the ads weren't intrusive by popping up, flashing, having sound, & redirecting me because I accidentally click on it when moving my mouse.

Ads shouldn't be doing that on this site. It would be helpful if you reported them to me.

As i mentioned before, blocking the ads decreases the revenue the site makes. If you're personally OK with doing that and can sleep ok at night, there isn't anything I can do but if enough people do the same, the site will not make enough to continue to exist...

I have the same question as another poster: The site makes money just by having ads APPEAR on the site----even if no one clicks / buys what is being advertized?

Most of the ads (all the image ads) are paid based on appearing.

I use a local proxy that blocks ads, so I never see them. I sleep fine at night. Well, not really, but blocking ads isn't the reason. :P

I must say that I remember using a public computer without an adblocker to browse WP and the ads were less invasive then they are on a lot of other sites, which is a plus. Still annoying though, and the amount of junk sites that cause your computer to BSOD with their ads outweighs the good sites too much for me for me to consider turning my adblocker off.

I have no problems with the ads which appear at the top of the pages, and in the large margins on either side of the pages (that's what they're there for, presumably?).

The ones which are placed within the first post on a page, or after it if you prefer, are a different matter entirely.

The post itself tends to be "swamped", and to be secondary to the ads.

You can selectively have it off for certain sites that you approve.

Some were doing that on the old site which is why I started using AdBlock. I guess I could try disabling it for here & seeing how bad the adds are or not.
