Dare I ask what one would have to do to be 3/4 as awesome as Metal Gear Solid??

Eat the flames and spit them out.

Um, at that point, having the accolade would not matter as I would be floating above you, waving my fists

It's actually quite doable.

But it requires special fuel and years of training.

If you mean fire breathing, I can already do that... you hold a mouthful of paraffin, hold the torch in front of you and blow out the paraffin at the torch while stepping back slightly. I learnt it in an hour. My ex could already do it all, and until a point, I had refused to even try it, until I heard the Ministry of Sound were performing at a yacht festival the next night and the organisers wanted fire performers after seeing my ex and his fire pals. So, there we were in the local park, at 2am in the morning, teaching me to fire eat, fire breathe and fire staff. But after that occasion, I didn't do it again as it made me so nervous. It can freeze your lungs and kill you if you accidentally inhale the paraffin, and it can kill you if the flames blow back in your face, which has been known to happen.

I stand corrected and you stand more awesome.

My favourite ones. You should use those as an Avatar sometime!

I'm assuming it's not as spectacular in the daytime, right? (like fireworks)

Looks nothing much in daytime, but daylight is good for practising with just a staff.

How do you keep the fire away? Stand at a safe distance? (bit hard considering you're the one doing it!)

Not sure....the staff is so long really...mine is 6 foot...that it is very difficult to catch yourself with it, and besides, fire has to make contact for a certain number of seconds before it actually starts to do damage.

Heh, my friend proved that when he used a lighter and a deodorant can to make a stream of flame on the carpet at school! He's even done it on his shoes and gloves! (while wearing them)

Very cool pictures, I'd love to learn how to do something like that.

Those are great pics!! Is there much fire spinning in the UK? In the states I've found spinners mostly in the northwest (Oregon!)Not nearly enough. I've been spinning poi for a number of years, but never could get the hang of staff.

Oh, yes! the pictures are great, and we have a lot of fire swingers out here in Oregon! The Oregon Country Fair draws them from all over the State and my favorites do their fire shows in Southern Oregon, in Ashland and Cave Junction, especially.
