I kind of hated the dentist when I had braces but he was rough with kids even thou he was a kids dentist & he never let the parents go in too. He kept telling me to relax my lip & I never understood what he meant & he always complained about my teeth not being brushed well enough but the dentist I saw before & after I had my braces told me I did a good job brushing my teeth. I hated the experience of having work done in my mouth. I don't hate my other dentist thou I don't like going.

One of my biggest regrets was not getting to have braces as a kid. One of my friends in high school had them (facebow headgear and all) and I was really envious because of the way they suddenly made him look "tough" when he got them. Maybe someday (like after I'm 62 and on the "dole") when I finally have the disposable income to have my remaining teeth pulled and get a set of dentures, I'll have them put fake braces on the false teeth as I actually love the way they look, and with braces showing, I doubt anyone would ever suspect they're dentures.

Until then, I have these for special occasions...

When I was a kid I was *really* afraid of the dentist. Back then I had to go to the hospital a lot to get tubes in my ears and needles for pre-surgery blood tests and other unpleasant things that emotionally scarred me. I used to shake like a leaf while in the chair, even if it was just a checkup and I knew he wasn't going to drill or pull any teeth. But I'm much better now. Well most of the time, a couple years ago I had to get one of my front teeth filled just before Christmas and then I just started breathing fast and crying and stuff.

The hygienist asked me if I'd like some vodka. I knew she was joking but I told her I don't drink.

And I calmed down pretty quickly. The dentist was actually very nice to me, plus the chair has a built in massage. Must use some kind of acupressure to relax you. :)

I don't hate any dentists, I just hate going there. The smell and the needles scare me, even though I'm in a safe environment.

It's more nerves than anything. The dentists that I see are very nice people and understanding with me, which is helpful.
