I suspect a lot of us like to perseverate on very specific and often arcane topics not generally of broad appeal, a case close to home for me would be my audio restoration thread [one of several I've put up] which tends to be of appeal only to a narrow subset of a narrow avocational/occupational niche and as such tends to be single-paged.

I agree from your comments there that the view counter could often be reporting double the actual views. I guess it's not unheard of for a bug to manifest itself in a non-uniform way like that.

I don't think you need worry about not having a life though. It would be more worrying if nobody was interested in your findings.

I'm sure I remember a time when the average ratio of the number of views of threads on WP to the number of replies was about 20 to 1. That seems to have increased.

Personally, I think I post on about half the threads I actually read, until I've posted, and then I follow the thread and probably post there less than half the times I read it. I don't usually look at a new thread at all unless the title seems interesting, and most of the time the content doesn't disappoint me, and when I'm interested, I like to wade in with my views, though sometimes I decide after writing it that it's not worth posting, so I don't. But all things considered, if everybody were like me and the counter worked properly, the overall read : post ratio wouldn't be so high.

I think somebody suggested once that a lot of the reads could be from spybots.

It depends on what mood I'm in. Like now, I'm sick with a headcold and almost coughing up a lung. So now I'm only in the mood to respond to light topics of which I can hopefully contribute something useful during the time I'm in my Nyquil hot toddy fog.

if i click on the thread and the first post is really long i leave the thread

if i get through reading the thread i usually don't have anything to say in reply to whatever was said

if i do have something to say then a lot of the time i'll wind up not saying it because it seems stupid

I tend to do that too, unless I've got a lot of time to kill.

I post a reply, then panic and delete it immediately.

I mostly like just reading about other people with similar problems to me and listening to the other views on them. I can usually find what I am looking for without getting involved. I prefer to be candid.
