In 1841 there were 163 female 'Lunatic asylum keepers' working in England

And, incase anyone's interested, 6 of those women were under the age of 20.

I have a few photos of Whittingham mental hoapital, a huge derelict mental hospital very near to me. I've never managed to get inside but I can show you a few images of the outside as well as a few from some who actually entered.

There are no old mental hospitals near me :(
I have an old map of Manchester from the 1880s though which labels things like 'Asylum for the Blind and School for the Deaf and Dumb' so there are some old places near me, but not many. I like my map, it labels All Saints Church on Oxford Rd as well :D
How big are these mental hospitals usually? I've never been in one

Where else are you going to put people who have been driven insane with curses?

At the church I go to now, four years ago they came under special attention by witches. Two leaders died simultaneously of the same unusual form of cancer. The head prayer minister started hearing demonic voices that were getting louder and louder. The pastor suddenly freaked out and left the church. Things were going bad.

I was called in by a member of the church. After considerable deliverance, the voices were driven out of the head prayer minister, just before she would have been committed. I shut down the demons on the church property. I took the prayer team in a van and shut down all territorial spirits within a four-block radius of the church. A large witch community was two blocks from the church at their nearest. They have abandoned the apartment complex nearest to the church. Kabbalists were also involved, but it's too complicated to explain what I had to do there.

The head prayer minister comes over and gives me a hug whenever she sees me.

Spooky pics, Graelwyn. Gives me chills just looking at them. Is that a team of psychic investigators in the pics ???

Some really good pics there. It's great that you get to go in and wonder around. There's nowhere like that near here (at least not that I know of). I do live near an old manor house though, which is nice to walk past and ponder over. I'd like to have free reign to wander around inside, but it's not allowed - only guided tours and other events allow you to see the house. Obviously I've been in there a good few times, but not for a while. It's not really the same if you don't get to take your own time.

Yes, including myself. I am there in most of them. I called in a team as I wanted to have further validation. My ex and I investigated it ourselves on and off for several years.

My ex knew of all the derelict or unoccupied places on the Isle Of Wight, which is where this place is. We even got into Carisbrooke Castle one night, which has guards in a house there. That was funny, as the only way in really was a high wall...and it had no footholds really and I was too afraid to climb it, but... in a remarkable act of contortionism, I managed to squeeze between 2 bars in the entrance gate. My ex and his friend just couldn't believe I managed to fit through  Appuldurcombe house there is another that is easy to get into at night. Loads of gaps in the fencing along the front and the whole side of the place is open as it was bombed in WW2. Could just walk straight in, but very creepy.

Looks very interesting building... not as large as Whitecroft, I don't think...is it just one building?

Reminds me of articles posted on Fortentimes.com regarding haunted places.
Quite the pasttime ! !!

I've been in places like that, and I don't know how to describe the feeling that comes over me. Not particularly scared, just that odd sense of being watched ...

No I don't. But ghosts aren't just a figment of someone's imagination. They aren't group psychosis, either.
