no, it was given to me by someone who didnt want it, she said she bought it in a store and thought it looked like a pinecone thats all she knew about it

It kinda looks like a crystal...

it is some type of crystal, but it is not quartz, feldspar, gypsum, flourite, and it is not rock candy. i know thats what some have probably thought haha, it is wierd and its pissing me off

it looks like an orange pinecone and has great hardness, that i say rivals feldspars, but is flakey. thats it

look how thin these crystals are, sorry i dont know how to f-ing work my internet camera so the color may be a little wack

I know you're sure it's not a quartz crystal, but...

At a few New-Agey shops, I've seen crystals of various kinds that have been doctored to look like things they're not - treated at high temperatures or soaked in chemicals to make them look like that popular gemstone Costalottamoneyite. Might it have been messed with, which is why it's so hard to figure out what it is?

I'm over my crystal obsession at the moment, but used to be right into it. It doesn't immediately jump out as being one of the standard bought-in-shop rocks.

Richard I know this sounds weird, but taste the rock. It might be a Halite crystal. If so it will be salty tasting. Halite is often a pale orange. Generally Halite crystal is very unstable, but in low humidity environments people are able to keep them. And considering where you live. Just a thought.

Next guess is its some form of Calcite.

If you want I can show the pictures to a friend at work who is an expert rockhounder.

Do you know where it was found? If you know the county it can help narrow the possibilities.
