For the $50,000, 000 specified I’d be leaving the area and probably moving to where I can own a big chunk of land and live on it. This would be more out of the need for solitude than greed.

But before that I’d:

• Quit my job

• Give immediate family and a few others money in one lump sum to do what they want with. If they squander it and run out that’s their problem.

• I’d build a new Humane Society building since the existing one is rather dated and not nearly big enough.

• Adopt more dogs and maybe get a few horses, too.

• New vehicles and other toys for my pleasure at my new house in the boonies. :D

I very rarely do the lottery.

I only really do it if I need change for a 20 and then I forget to check it.

The last one I threw away because it went out of date unchecked.

But if I won I'd buy a small property or a houseboat and tell nobody I'd won or even where I'd moved to, except my daughter of course.

Then I might buy a small brick-a-brack shop as a hobby, something to potter about at.

I'd lead a very quiet, peaceful and unassuming existence.

I've never been a one for fuss.

Not that it's going to happen anyway, but I would:

Buy/rent a house for me and my husband
Donate to animal shelters and wildlife funds
Buy books and video games
Help pay off bills and debt
Put the rest in our bank account for when we need it

Invest the money and keep working at my present job. The only thing I'd really want to splurge on is buying land and having the house of my dreams built.

You hear lots of bad stories about lotto winners, but that's because they think the money they win is infinite and they squander it all. They don't insure their financial future with any of it.

I would:
- Quit work in style. I'm thinking of hiring some famous diva to sing my resignation letter over megaphone from the street
- Buy a house for my dad, brothers, and pay off my mum and brother's mortgages
- New cars for all of the above
- Top up my mum and dad's super after it got nailed by the GFC
- Numerous new cars for me
- Numerous new houses for me (as investments that is). Plus a property somewhere big enough for dogs and horses.
- Maybe set up some sort of trust fund for my nieces with a mix of investments in it
- Create a big portfolio of investments that will earn me enough in passive income to live very comfortably but not enough to give the tax man big paydays every year.
- Use the rest as a dipping into fund for self indulgent discretionary spending and as a financial buffer should the stock and real estate market crash.

If I ever won the lottery, like more than enough to live on for the rest of my life, I will follow these steps:-

1. Hand in my notice at work

2. Donate some of my money to work and also give some of the money to my close relatives/friends too

3. Buy a little cottage in the countryside, for me and my partner, and an extra room or two in case family/friends want to stay, and is surrounded by moors and fields, and neighbours near enough to see but too far to hear

4. Buy some of the surrounding land so that I can have enough room to have my very own swimming-pool

5. Get my own car so I can drive to the nearest town if I need shopping or days out

And just spend the rest of my life having no pressure at all, and just book up vacations for me and my partner every few months (and family and/or friends). My partner will probably still want his job so he can work if he wants, but I won't ever have to work. If I want I would just do voluntary work.

Oh, and one more thing: a shotgun for my head, because I seem to be p*ssing off everyone in my life anymore.

Using the 50 mil in the OP, I would do the usual charity donations (veterans, homeless, animals, etc.----I would love to just walk-down, around the streets by Lexington Market, and hand-out 100 dollar bills to the homeless [unless they were mean, and cussing at people], and others who needed it), and I MIGHT give some to some family members (none of them are WORTHY, right now, to receive gifts from me----but, knowing me, I'd turn the other cheek); then, I would:

- Want to contribute to the "Revitalize Baltimore" program by buying a block of houses in Baltimore City and renovating (putting proper [non-lead] paint in each, a sprinkler system, washer and dryer, updated kitchen and bath, etc.) / renting them; then, convert the downstairs of two, on one end, into a "proper-priced" grocery store----you know, a grocery store that doesn't sell a can of soup, for $1.89 each----and live on the top floor (of the two row-houses with the wall knocked-out between the two).

I'm SICK of poor people getting screwed-over by corner stores (I understand that the business owner wants to make a profit, and that one pays for convenience, but it's BEYOND ridiculous, nowadays), so I would join the farm co-op thing where you pay so much per month to get lots of veggies, etc., each month, for the store. I would only charge enough to cover overhead (salaries, property management for the houses, water for the block / electricity for the store, etc.----that is, if I needed to, considering I would have the money from the rents, but the rents would be real low).

- Then, given a few years for the business to get established, I would get a small house out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere, where I could have some animals, lots of space, live off the grid, maybe have a lake..... It wouldn't have to be a brand-NEW house----a dream-house would be a log cabin----but, whatever kind of house, I would have contractors insulate / sound-proof it, to the max (I would tell them: "After you've put-in 'the standard amount', put-in some more" [after living in the city, the silence would probably deafen me / drive me to drink! LOL]).

- Then, I'd live-out my days being able to buy whatever DVD / book I wanted, WHEN I wanted it, taking care-of / playing with my animals, crocheting lap-blankets for veterans, or whatever.....

I'd also buy a new decked-out desktop, a new UPS for it, get the fastest net speed I can, & I'd pay to get data retrieved from a hardrive that crashed.
That's the most important stuff but if the money was alot more than that costs
My girlfriend would probably want me to buy a house for her parents. I'd then hire a private investigator to find my two ex girlfriends & give em both a million or so without them knowing it's from me. I also may use it to figure out a plan to meet the iCarly star, Miranda Cosgrove. I have a huge crush obsession with her & I think meeting her might help me get over it & if not, I could afford good therapy.

I'd probably buy a small A-frame cabin in a mountain community like Big Bear, and then... live in it. I'd keep the rest in reserve for home repairs/maintenance, food, utilities, unexpected medical/dental bills, and a new video game or two per month until I get old and dead. I can't really think of anything else aside from maybe getting a traditional siamese cat, as I'd finally have the money to feel like I could responsibly take care of one even if it unexpectedly got ill and had need for veterinary treatment.
