Please help me
He seems unwilling to help himself, which is why others stop being willing to help him. It's the very very old classic saying "God helps those who help themselves," scenario.
I've been on the receiving end of undeserved criticism that I was unwilling to help myself, because I couldn't communicate my reasons for rejecting suggestions.....so even if someone regularly asks for help and rejects every suggestion anyone makes, that doesn't change my view that they may have good reasons for doing so. (Of course, they may not, but I choose to assume they do unless I have evidence to the contrary -- simply refusing suggestions that make sense to me and would be helpful to me or others I know is not enough for me to change that assumption.)
That's fine by me. I just have a different take on things.
I never for a moment thought that you might be anti-homeless or anti-helping-homeless-people.
That was me.

ers"]I think that people generally have a good idea of what will and won't work for them and what kind of help they need, so when they don't do what others suggest I imagine they have good reasons.
Maybe ASS-P isn't able to contact Disability Services or has already tried that and it didn't work.
It's also possible that he isn't able to be more clear about what he needs (I have been in that situation many, many times), or that he just wants to keep that as private as he can (i.e. not tell the whole forum all the details of his situation, but share it with people on a need-to-know basis).
Whatever his reasons, it's okay by me that he didn't do what I suggested.
ASS-P, I hope that slenkar can be the advocate you need and that everything works out for you with the college.
He's been posting very similar requests for HELP for the last couple years & several people offer him advice, which he refuses to follow without any logical reason besides "other things didn't help, so this won't either," sort of responses.
He seems unwilling to help himself, which is why others stop being willing to help him. It's the very very old classic saying "God helps those who help themselves," scenario.
Here's the cycle that's played out here, repeatedly, for at least a couple of years:
ASS-P: I NEED HELP!
Forum responses: Here's some logical advice to try.
ASS-P: THAT WON'T WORK! I REFUSE TO TRY IT! I NEED HELP!
Forum responses: *crickets*
Call me harsh all you want, but thats the way I see it. While I'm not in ASS-P's shoes, I have been virtually homeless before - I spent a year and a half living in my friend's construction site when I needed a place to crash. I also have no problem with helping homeless people. In fact, I created, promoted, and hosted a fundraiser last Summer for a local youth homeless shelter simply because I feel for those kids even though I've never met a single one of them. I'm not anti-homeless or anti-helping homeless people. However, I won't spend my time and energy helping someone who flat out refuses to help themselves.
Someone posted a link to the disability services office of this particular community college. That should be ASS-P's first course of action - to see if they can help him. That is precisely what they are there for & they may have experience dealing with students with Asperger's and know exactly how to tailor their help to his specific needs. But he'll never know what they may or may not be able to do for him if he doesn't contact them and find out. If they are unable to help him, or he's unable to communicate with them, then I fully understand turning to others to request assistance - and in turn others offering it. But to shoot down such a logical, rational, common sense suggestion and instead continuing to shout off about how others don't know his story blah blah and asking for further help without even exploring the ideas already handed to him on a silver platter? Forget that noise.
Learn how to be receptive to the help you've been given, try things, see what you can do for yourself, exhaust all of your options.. and then, if necessary, feel free to request additional assistance. IMO. YMMV.
I say try contacting the disability services office that was suggested to you earlier in this thread. They are professionals who's job it is to help people like you with exactly what you need. Why wouldn't you contact them and find out what they can do for you?
