Look, this is about stonefish, not some 'lotus tit'.
rb, have you ever seen one? I mean at Sea World or an aquarium somewhere? A stonefish, I mean. You'd think it was an algae-infested rock, wouldn't you? Here's a tip. In the very unlikely event that you should go reef-walking in the Great Barrier Reef, do not go barefoot or in sandals. Use shoes with VERY thick soles, 'cos those spines are a few centimeters long. And if you step on one, apply a torniquet (I mean it) and get to a hospital as soon as possible (I REALLY mean it). A friend of the family survived the venom, but only just. Believe me, it is not a good thing.
Of course, that's just the stonefish. I say you may have also heard of good ol' Chrinoex fleckeri? Because of this bugger (as well as others of his ilk), swimmers up north have to wear nylon stockings to stop envenomation....
