...A few years ago , when I was in a room which didn't last
, I think I started to subscribe to the San Francisco Chronicle ~ and , even though I was in a mass apartment/hotel/SRO/whatever house with a front desk , it took FOREVER to start ~ That is , if it ever did
! !! !! !! !! !!
A part of me tends to feel as if , in subscribing to a paper , I am " becoming old/more responsible/settling down " - like I ambecoming some Gale Gordon/Robert Benchley/some other old-style actor who played stuffy older dudes ~ " MRS. CARMICHAEL ! !! !! !! !! !! "
!
This is even before the thought comes in that , to all the " modern " cyber-dudes , " buying a PAPER newspaper is SOOO twentieth-century/analog , dude
"
Also , when I , in that nursing place in Santa Cruz , did subscribe to the newspaper there - Seeing how much you save in getting it delivered made me feel even more down (& the SC paper was especially thin/a quick read , too) - It makes me feel like I'm another " left-out " sucker , paying loads for a incompetent hand job while everybody else is getting laid for free !
But I end up buying a daily paper , probably most days - for full retail or machine price - anyway
.
The Chronicle or the (San Jose) Mercury News or (Oakland) East Bay Times - essentially identical , at best slightly different editions , of the same newspaper which maintain the pretense of being separate newspapers .
