I'm just hoping the world is still around and fit to live in. People have been predicting all kinds of global catastrophes since the beginning of history that never came true, but that still doesn't make me wish I had a bomb shelter.
The difference being technology. Natural global disaster is not the same as man made disasters and much harder to predict. Modern history is unique in that we have technologies to easily destroy ourselves and we are at a point were accelerated returns are happening at a much shorter time span. What we have achieved today in 10 years is not the same as what we could achieve even 30 years ago after 10 years of time. Developing technologies are great so long as we don't abuse or misuse them at our own peril. Developing something we are not prepared for being another possibility.
