Sherlock Holmes is always on the list of fictional characters suspected of being an aspie when that topic comes up.
Another character is Dr. House of the TV show of that name. Dr. House was largely based upon Sherlock Holmes, and even his name is a reference to the Doyle character (Holmes to Homes to Houses to House).

Since he is a fictional character its impossible to say if he "really" was aspie.

I have heard that Conan Doyle was suspected of having something to do with the Piltdown Man hoax, but didn't know that he had joined the ever growing list of folks suspected of being Jack the Ripper.

I wish that his creation, Sherlock Holmes, was around to get to the bottom of both mysteries!

Tony Attwood talks about something he calls "Sherlock syndrome", which is a jokey way to describe a certain subset of Asperger's teenagers who learn to value intelligence above all else. He says that the main character in the show "Sherlock" is classic Asperger's.

I relate to Sherlock a lot. And to Molly.

I've Heard something similar, but I don't think so. Aaron Kosminski was the most probable suspect up to recently; there's been some development in the form of an old diary containing a confession, that I think was previously thought a hoax, being confirmed genuine. Can't recall the name of the man, though.

Tony Shaloub's character, Monk, was explicitly based on Holmes, along with the supporting cast. I loved that show, and House. I never got into Holmes as much.
